The amount of times I’ve seen people say Jones has a good hockey mind or knows the game today has me convinced that nobody has had their TV sound on during games.

This guy is literally one of the dumbest human beings I’ve ever heard speak. His favorite player is Ristolainen, he’s obsessed with every horrible goon, and he absolutely hates guys like Sanheim/Ghost/Frost. He refused to criticize anyone Fletcher added or Fletcher himself and exclusively scapegoated the skill players or youth.

He’s not a good guy, he’s not a good mind, he’s a piece of shit.
I tried to explain the issues with these decisions and got told Jones was just doing his job as a commentor since he's paid by the team to say those things on air....

People always use that idiotic “What do you expect? He can’t talk shit on the team while doing games!” defense, which makes absolutely no sense.

He may not be able to call Fletcher a stupid asshole on air, but he also doesn’t need to go out of his way to slobber on Ristolainens knob for 10 minutes straight (even before he was a Flyer) or find a way to scapegoat Sanheim/Frost/whoever for everything that goes wrong or any of the other hundreds of examples of him embarrassing himself over the years. That’s him putting his own caveman 10 IQ bias on the broadcast, which has absolutely nothing to do with job security.

I wouldn't want Jones in a decision making post, but his connections have value, it's how you pick up scuttlebutt about players and coaches and GMs, who's a screwup, who's on the hot seat and so on. Jones will go to all the league functions and pick up on the gossip and grapevine. In that role, he's probably ideal.

He's a bit too in love with the physical side of the game for my tastes.

But Briere understands skill and is comfortable with analytics (big change from CF and Hextall) so I doubt he'll be swayed by Jones lauding a player's toughness.

It all comes down to Briere, is he a wunderkid or a false hope?

Comcast did send him to Wharton to develop the business skills a GM needs (negotiation, financial, etc), so you know this has been planned for a while. Like I said, this is a classic "corporate move," i.e. Comcast management grooming a young executive, not a "Flyer" move, grasping for "one of us" - for good or evil.

It's both... Comcast and Flyers influenced but of course you don't see that shade of grey

Not sure about "worse", the Flyers have a ways to go to match the Leafs Cup drought, but fair enough.
The gap isn't that big

They’re so lost.

It can get worse.

I’ll disagree on this. I hate the hire, but Jonesy isn’t a collect a paycheck guy. He’s a hard worker. I’m pretty sure he used to work for WIP for free at the start

His love of Risto hurts my soul. So bad

Couldn't care less. He's a moron that likes all the wrong things in players. He will only hurt this team further with whatever he contributes.

Once you hit a 50 year drought, which the Flyers will do, the 8 year difference between the Flyers and Leafs droughts is negligible. They also have a much better present and future, regardless of what happens in these Playoffs.

"This one horrible hire (ignore the fact that he had connections to chairman Bobby!) was an 'outsider,' ergo, the Flyers were correct in returning to the incestuous slop well"

I love the "he was an outsider" excuse...as if he wasn't hired because of Bob Clarke, who he used to f***ing work for. He may not have played for the Flyers prior to becoming GM, but Fletcher had the strongest ties you can possibly have as a non-alumni.

You’re going with “he will get the hot gossip” as the highlight here? Even for you, that’s thin.
