Kadri

I don't think Kadri's hit was an "accident", per se. I can understand the train of thought that his defense was, that he was trying to make a hockey play and mistimed it (I'm paraphrasing that here)...but honestly, it was a dumb decision. There wasn't any need for a big clean hit there. He has to have better situational awareness. Of course, that is easy for us at home to say.

Kadri deserved a suspension. If all things were equal, most of us would have been fine with 8 games. However, things are not and have not been equal in terms of the punishments the DoPS hands out. That is where my chief complain lies.
No his hit wasn't accidental at all, he was trying to hit a player, trying to ring him up, and it seems that his emotions got the best of him. Because even though I fully believe hitting is allowed in hockey and his wasn't malicious (I still don't think he was trying to give him a concussion, just trying to conduct a big hit), I don't think hitting him there was necessarily appropriate and it showed that his timing was beyond dumb. When you put your situation in other people's pockets then anything can happen to you whether that be unfair or not. He's gotta know better than this.

Kadri is brash, unapologetic, argues with every ref (every person), breaks unwritten rules, and his hearings have apparently been combative. IMO that all has more to do with him not having any leniency than anything else. His hit wasn't all that much different than Staal's on Chucky... but Kadri isn't Staal. Much more history and built up animosity.

Sounds a lot like when I would call my mom stupid for grounding me. And then she'd tack on another day.

Which if true, that's just another sign the DoPS isn't basing these decisions on the merits, it's based on who they like and don't like.

They decided a while ago they don't like Kadri. That's why his punishment is always more severe than someone like Reaves, who despite continually crossing the line, they appear to like.

Hmmm . . . wonder why this is.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with this t shirt. Nothing at all.

BTW, it sure seems like he does have some sort of endorsement deal with this company. Otherwise why would he have done a lengthy Q&A for their website a few years ago, answering questions like, "What does the Violent Gentlemen brand mean to you?"

Someone on the main board said that Parros likes "tough guys" but doesn't like rats and it makes sense.

Again, more proof that he's letting his bias dictate the punishments. Which can result in losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars during the regular season and lost playoff games and series in the playoffs. Which can cost their owners millions.

I have no idea why the NHL is ok with that kind of person making these decisions.

Appoint a professional neutral party to head the department, set a standard, and stick to that standard. It's not that hard.

You know why. We all know why. The league doesn't care. They're not serious about head injuries at all, it's all just public relations for them to look good. The same way the league doesn't care about the product it churns out in the playoffs even though so many of its stars that it should be showcasing get slowed down and eliminated by teams that commit what should be infractions but are let go because "PlAyOfF hOcKeY."

The very instant they announced George Parros would take over I didn't expect him to do a good, consistent job at all. You don't make a former scrub goon the leader of player safety.

Yeah you're right, you're preaching to the choir on that one. I've said it dozens of times. They don't actually care about preventing head injuries, they care about the optics, and looking like they care about preventing head injuries for potential concussion lawsuits.

But they don't actually want to suspend guys in most of these cases. That's why they're so results oriented and mostly only suspend someone if the other player is injured and misses games. If they cared about preventing head injuries, they would punish the action, not the outcome.

It's also why they feel the need to appoint tough guys like Shannahan and Parros, so the players and the old boys club don't think they're trying to take the hitting out of the game.

Final hearing is Friday

Friday? So the NHL dragged this out to make sure he got at least 5 games? What the hell else are they doing right now that it needs to take this long? They're just playing games with this.

From waiting to announce the suspension during the next game, to the overly long suspension compared to similar plays, to dragging the arbitration out for 5 games, this whole thing has been handled very unprofessionally IMO.

Same thing happened with Wilsons. Got suspended for 20 and by the time it got reduced to 14 games he had sat out 16.

Exactly and the Hearing is Friday but the ruling might not drop until Monday or Tuesday the following week , these guys like to look like they gave it very serious consideration and don't work weekends so a Tuesday ruling would be the day of game five of this series assuming it goes that far and game 7 of the suspension . I will be pleasantly surprised if the announcement timing and reduction put him back in uniform for Sundays game 4 .

If it’s reduced to six games (my expectation) then that needs to be made known by early Tuesday. Then he’s back for game 5 or game 1 vs some crappy Canadian team.
