Yup. Vegas worries me a little because I like their overall forward depth more than ours. But we definitely have the high end talent advantage. Should be a really tight series.
I think it is going to be really tight just based off clashing styles of play and which one will win out with playoff refs. Will be really interesting to watch.

I hope for the sake of hockey in general that Colorado win (not just as an Avs fan), so more teams start to transition towards the fun style of hockey the Avs play, and more teams move away from the defensive style Vegas plays.

Agree... in a copycat league this will be an important series. To a bit lesser extent... Carolina/Tampa will have some similar elements.

Totally agreed. I would love to see a series between two teams built like the Avs from the back end with transition, speed, and puckmoving to the max. That would be an absolute treat to watch.

That's kind of the point, there aren't any others yet. But if the Avs win the series and other teams start aping that strategy, we could see that a few years down the line.

OK, I initially thought you were referring to another team and also maybe that you misread the comment and suggesting the Vegas is similar. Right on.

I'd like it if Colorado changes the game in terms of how teams play and how they value players. I also think leagues are best when a team who does it differently has a good chance and it's not everyone dedicated to the same formulas and truisms. And, as has been noted, Colorado's style of play is appealing.

If this works, it might be similar to the 90s Broncos zone blocking scheme and putting an emphasis on offensive linemen with mobility.

If they win the cup teams will start to build their teams like we have. And that's an NHL that I would love to see.

Knights don't play a defensive style of hockey, that's a complete misconception if you think that. They do try to drive a lot of offense from their better defensemen, but I think the Avs in general are a better defensive team when everyone is healthy as shown through shot suppression. Avs just have more talented offensive players, but that doesn't make for a more fun style of play. In the playoffs if the two teams play I think you'll see a lower scoring series because both teams will be very wary of letting their opponent get a lot of open ice and odd man rushes.

Little more info on the process from Dater. Interesting the arbitrator after Bettman has a history of player friendly decisions.
  • Assuming Bettman rules to uphold the original sentence, Kadri has seven days to decide on a further appeal, to a neutral arbitrator.
  • Since it would be in Kadri’s best interests, because we’re in the playoffs and all, he would be expected to file the second appeal immediately.
  • Kadri has the right to the second appeal, because the suspension was for more than six games. Anything less than that, and he wouldn’t have the opportunity to appeal to a neutral arbitrator.
  • Assuming Kadri appeals a second time, the case would be heard by “neutral discipline arbitrator” Shyam Das. Interestingly, Das has a reputation for being on the side of players in these things. He was the arbitrator who shortened the lengthy suspension of Milwaukee Brewers steroid user Ryan Braun in 2012 (he was later fired by Major League Baseball over this, which was heavily criticized in the media).
  • Das would have another day to issue his ruling, and that would be binding. That’s how I’m expecting this to go. There are unconfirmed reports that Nazem Kadri has hired outside counsel to help represent him in the hearing with Bettman (and, presumably, with Mr. Das). You can bet Bettman will come with an armload of facts on his side though, too. Bettman is a New York lawyer well-schooled in courtroom procedures.
  • Both sides would split the cost of the arbitrator, Mr. Das, if it goes that far.
Details of the next steps in the Nazem Kadri appeal process

It's great that the team i love plays such an entertaining style of hockey, i wouldn't trade for any other. But i don't have a problem with the way Vegas play, or the Islanders.

In fact i enjoy watching a well coached, disciplined team having sucess over more talented teams by working harder and applying themselves more.

To me, that is the beauty of hockey... the fact there are many differents ways to win game.

So, they claimed Rantanen was the center but it was actually Landeskog, just like they claim MacKinnon is the center of the top line when actually it's been Landeskog the whole time. Weird that they never claimed Landeskog to be a center even for a game since they drafted him.

I kinda get what he means though but don't take it quite as far. I do think Landy does a fair amount of heavy lifting with C duties in the defensive zone. The three of the just do their own god-damned thing on offense. The draws those...those really seem to be split damn near 50/50 based on handedness between Landy and MacK. I really didn't watch the Rants at C game close enough to remember much on my thoughts about that, but I do know they tried him a handful of games at the AHL level and I think he's filled in a few other times here and there at the NHL level.

My biggest gripe with Bednar is that he hasn't tinkered near enough with the top line. I'm not talking about doing this for any number of games or even full games. But he needs to do it so he can kind of find out what could be his best move in exactly this situation...the 2nd line is down a center. A winger, not that big of a deal, but when you got three guys that could all probably play center better than a Kadri has this season and because the coaches next best option is JT motherf***ing Compher...Well, this wouldn't be near as big of a deal. I wasn't even thinking this was something he needed to do because Kadri might get suspended...I was thinking if his play continued to suck or if god forbid he got injured. You gotta have a backup. But to do it now, would be a liability, because you really have know clue what would work other than dropping MacKinnon to the 2nd line. That dude can make anyone click. You then gotta go with Newhook on the top line. Sink or swim kid....no sweat. Landy and Rants will take care of him though as long as he doesn't beaver tap too much or puck hog. They've been playing with a kid who does that for far too long, or at least Landy has. :naughty:

That's kind of the point, there aren't any others yet. But if the Avs win the series and other teams start aping that strategy, we could see that a few years down the line.

If they win the cup teams will start to build their teams like we have. And that's an NHL that I would love to see.

It will take a long time for teams to copy cat the Avs team though. The elite amount of skating our backend possess doesn't exist for teams to really duplicate with any degree of success. It'll be interesting to see how long we'll even be able to keep it all together. That's the dream though. That would be fantastic hockey. Especially if they ever once called interference on a dump in.

It’s not Kadri’s fault he has to headshot players and absorb their life force in order to be good at hockey and he was all out of life force.

I wonder if they announce the Kadri suspension appeal result on air like they did his suspension. Another kick in the gut.

Buttman will stall until Monday or Tuesday then the 3rd party will schedule and wait 2 days to announce by then it will have been at least 5 games probably 6 already . If they sweep Vegas he will be back for the third round .
