Kadri

This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with making an example of someone after the heat taken from the Wilson incident.

If that’s what it was, they should have thought about the optics of sacrificing the person who is “other” to spare the person who isn’t.

If this guy is the only one who complains, it might go away. But at this moment, it’s teetering on being a full blown controversy that the nhl doesn’t want.

Maybe it’s because I grew up f***ing normal where the color of somebody’s skin literally has nothing to do with anything in life but I just can’t fathom how somebody could even consider that when making a decision like this. The last year and a half has really opened my eyes to how backward ass some parts of the world is with racism but my head just doesn’t factor skin colour into any decision and that leads me to not consider it’s part of other peoples decision making as well.

That’s great that you did, but that experience isn’t the same for everyone. I grew up in small town Kansas, and witnessed both passive and blatant racism against the few black, Hispanic, and Asian classmates/families that came through. It’s gotten better over the years, but I still witness it on a pretty frequent basis.

All I meant was that I could understand it being a question due to my own personal experiences and things I’ve witnessed in my life.

Not true. The 18 month rule only applies to fines. I only found this out today too.

Oh, gotcha. Good to know. Thanks for the heads up.

I still think it’s a ridiculous number of games for the playoffs. I could get behind it in the regular season, but 8 is just too many in the post-season.

3-5 games would have been reasonable. It’s pretty clear Parros ruled with an iron fist on this one after the flack he took from the Wilson incident.

Did DoPS go after Torres because he was a ginger?

I have no doubt Kadri has gone through some bad stuff as a muslim hockey player in Canada but I don't think DoPS are biased against him. He's earned every suspension he's gotten, just like Landeskog has.

Wilson had a history before his recent incident. Cooke had a history before he took out Barrie’s knee. Yet here we are.

He's got 5 playoff games last time in Toronto and he's getting 8 this time. I don't understand why people don't understand.

In the video they explained very well that:

A) the hit was avoidable
and
B) he actually position his shoulder to hit him the the head, on purpose.
and
C) it resulted in an injury
and
D) Kadri was suspended for 5 playoff games last time and even if he's no longer considered a repeat offender, past history IS taken in consideration.

Considering all this, 8 games is fine.
No one is arguing that. It's the lack of other discipline.

Simply because 8 playoff games is an absurd amount after he already got a 5 minute major and was kicked out of the game.

A 5 minute major is a HUGE punishment and absolutely has the ability to crush a team.

I don’t know how you give someone an 8 game suspension in the playoffs unless a player takes off their skate and attacks another player with it.

Kadri's last suspension was 3-5 games, which was the remainder of the series. There was no way they were going to give Kadri less considering his history.

Wilson's last suspension before the Panarin play was just a few months ago for 7 games.

His last suspension was 4 or 5 games, I can't remember. But when you repeatedly put people in danger this is what happens.

Sometimes. For some people. Just not always.

He's got 5 playoff games last time and he pulled that shit again 2 years later and left another player injured.

How many games is fair this time according to you? Keep in mind that it has to be significantly more than 5.

I thought 3-4, would have been the right call. Maybe 5 on the upper tier.

You don’t just keep upping the games regardless of what the incident is.

This play was reckless and deserved a suspension, but wasn’t as bad as what he did against Boston.

Dude that was as bad as it gets. Blindside hit straight to the head causing instant concussion, Faulk was out cold. That's the same hit that cost Marc Savard and many others their career. This is textbook the kind of hit that the NHL is trying to get rid of.

Just because they got it wrong for Wilson doesn’t mean that mean that Kadri didn’t have this coming with his next bad hit.

Yes but just exaggerate that idea and you'll see this isn't that strong a point.

Many people seem to think this was 1-3 games or so excessive. So say they gave him 20 games instead of 8. Is it still fair to say, "just because they got it wrong for Wilson doesn’t mean that Kadri didn’t have this coming with his next bad hit"?

Either way the point remains that they were way too lenient with Wilson, Bennett, Kolesar, etc and too harsh with Kadri.

So they screwed up multiple times with their disciplinary measures, including with Kadri, and that shouldn't be downplayed IMO.

I’m not debating it was a bad play, but the Boston play was far more deliberate. This one happened at high speed.

I’m not saying that it shouldn’t have been a suspension, just that 8 games was excessive.

That was Bennett’s first suspension. Outside of Wilson your talking about a guys who’s been suspended 6x more than them. The punishments aren’t the same in that case and they don’t even really matter in Kadri’s case.

I would ask for the 10 team no trade list right now if I was Sakic. Get this guy outta here as soon as possible.

There's just no benefit to keeping him. Even if he's putting up numbers like last year, he's still responsible for horrible defensive plays, like the ones that got us eliminated in game 7 against Dallas.

And then there's this season... His play is shit and he looks disinterested, he made stupid comments about Matthews winning the Rocket when Rants, his teammate, was still in the running at the time. And to top it off, he goes back to his stupid ways and gets suspended again.

Seriously, let's cut bait, and go in another direction, such as trying to trade for Reinhart or maybe getting Staz back in the fold.

Well. Stastny sure isn’t the answer at 2C...
