Kadri

High punishment, but at the same time seems justifiable to me.

But will also say, putting 8 games just seems to me like it's a form of appeal protection. Basically this will probably be appealed to 6 games, which is probably what the DOPS wanted to give. They just couldn't do 6 games because there would have been a good chance that it would have been appealed down to 4-5 games, which would have not looked good given Kadri's history.

This is Kadri's 6th suspension? Maybe Kadri should keep a leash on himself.
Yes, but first one over 18th months so why even have the 18 month rule in there in the first place when he was still suspended the same amount regardless?

Yes it's justified but when you compare it to Wilson who only got a fine , all this make zero sense.
Yup Mr Frenchy! That's where @Avs_19 wheel of justice is used to gamble on what the suspension will be lol.

The hit doesn’t deserve to be reduced, but anything to put parros and his inconsistency on blast makes it well worth it.

I've been critical of Kadri. And he rightfully deserves a suspension after such a dangerous hit. However, IMHO, 8 games is excessive. Given how confusing and inconsistent DOPS rulings are in such cases. And how, according to NHL rules, Kadri IS NOT a repeat offender.

I hope Kadri appeals and gets his suspension reduced to 3-5 games.

And DOPS, get your act together! Wilson (who is a repeat offender) getting a $5K fine for his last assault, Kolesar getting nothing for his head shot on Byram, and Kadri getting 8 games shows how utterly conflicting your interpretations and rulings are.

Kadri should appeal and honestly he has a strong case to get it lowered. 8 games is a gross over reach based on previous suspensions.

Not to mention his previous suspensions don't mean jack, if they adhere to the 18 month rule.

This suspension screams of Parros being embarrassed by his lame duck attempt on Wilson's assaults a few weeks back. And Parros is trying to save face on this one as too look tough.

Kadri deserved a suspension, but this was a gross over reach by the league.

When is the last time an appeal worked? I don’t expect this to be lowered.

More often then you think.

The thing is most times guys dont bother appealing because most suspensions are fairly reasonable. This one is excessive and especially in the playoffs.

Tbh looking through the history I dont recall the last time a guy actually appealed a suspension and didn't have it reduced.

Last year Slava Voynov appealed his 82 game suspension and had it reduced to 41 games. The year before Auton Watson had his 33 game suspension reduced to 24 games after appeal. And Tom Wilson appealed his 20 game suspension and had it reduced to 14 games.

The only one I can find that was appealed and not succesful in the last 7 years that I looked, was Jakob Voracek in 2019. In that case it was a 2 game suspension that was upheld by Bettman and because the suspension was less than 6 games in length, Bettmans decision was final and Voracek and the NHLPA could not seek a 3rd party for an additional appeal.

In Kadri's case his suspension will be for more than 6 games which means they can use a 3rd party, and every one of the successful appealed suspensions of recent years were done at the hands of a 3rd party.

I suspect if Kadri and his team appeal, it will get reduced. 8 games is simply too much anyways even with his history. It was a bad hit and deserves suspending but 8 games is insane. I would guess the successful appeal results in either a 5 or 6 game suspension instead for him.

Tom Wilson received a 20 game suspension in 2018 for a preseason hit to Oscar Sundqvist. He appealed but Gary Bettman upheld the decision.

However, they again appealed through a neutral third party arbitrator and the suspension was reduced from 20 to 14 games. By that point, Wilson had already served 16 games so he was eligible to play immediately.

I don't know how quick the process would be to go through the league, and then a third party arbitrator when the league naturally doesn't reduce the suspension so as to not undermine Parros, but I have a feeling even if he appeals twice he'll have served the entirety of his suspension by that point.

This only affects money, not suspension length.

I also think Dennis Wideman going nuts and drilling the linesman also was reduced by a third party, though not one single team touched him with a telephone pole after that.

Unless the NHL went and changed the rulebook last night, Bednar's argument for longer than 18 months doesn't hold water.

The only thing Kadri did by waiting longer than 18 months from his last suspension was save himself from loosing some money.

8 games is ridiculous. Just reeks of the DOPeS trying to look like they're handing out justice for once after coming under heat lately for weak decisions. Hopefully Kadri appeals and gets it reduced, because playing the entire 2nd round against Vegas or Wild without him will make it that much tougher to win.
