Really harsh suspension considering the measuring stick the NHL uses. As usual DOPS make no sense.

Edit:Considering this is his 6th suspension, there is a case to be made for a harsh suspension. But it is possibly his weakest transgression.

I’m fine with the suspension itself, it’s at least consistent given his history and last playoff suspension. What I don’t agree with is the wild inconsistency of suspensions for things just as bad or worse. I think Kadri should have plenty of ammo of an appeal.

Also this meme was too good to pass up lol

Jeeeesus. This is gonna get traction and I wouldn’t be shocked if he appeals and gets a game or two knocked off just to avoid any of these conspiracies. In saying that, the NHL may also just stand tall since if they give in and change it it may look like this is what sparked it.

Wait. Are some people and not just trolls insinuating that race is a factor here?

Oh boy. I really hope this doesn't gain traction.

We'll see. I am surprised that people have not thought about this being an issue. For the record, I don't believe it had any part in the decision from the NHL, but in the last year or so issues of systemic racism have obviously received heightened focus. Although I don't believe race played any part, it will be easy for those (particularly outside of the traditional NHL media circles) to paint this as a unequal treatment for a minority player. Let's face it, NHL management, coaches, players, and its fan base are not particularly diverse, so the optics of one player (a minority) receiving disparate NHL discipline compared to some other non-minority players is not great.

In the video they explained very well that:

A) the hit was avoidable
and
B) he actually position his shoulder to hit him in the head, on purpose.
and
C) it resulted in an injury
and
D) Kadri was suspended for 5 playoff games last time and even if he's no longer considered a repeat offender, past history IS taken in consideration.

Considering all this, 8 games is fine.

Why wouldn’t that be something questioned when Wilson got a 5k fine, Bennett got a lesser sentence, Orlov wasn’t even called, Kolesar got nothing, etc.

It’s going to be natural to wonder if there was something underlying on that...especially considering the lack of anything toward Wilson.

No it’s not. Next.

[EDIT]

I don’t think it’s *the* reason, but I wouldn’t be surprised that deep down it played a role (albeit small). I think this is Parros wanting to make up for his dumbass decision on Wilson
I really don't think it played any role. An extra 3 games after getting 5 on his last one doesn't scream "extreme" to me. I'm starting to feel this is becoming more about Wilson than Kadri.

Head shots have to be out of the game.

Obviously skin color has nothing to do with it, but Kadri no doubt is made an example of because of DoPS feeling pressure of recent events.

As for Aliu's comment: when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. He's not helping what might be a legitimate appeal case. Now Bettman has to close ranks because of the implications of lessening the punishment.

Maybe it’s because I grew up f***ing normal where the color of somebody’s skin literally has nothing to do with anything in life but I just can’t fathom how somebody could even consider that when making a decision like this. The last year and a half has really opened my eyes to how backward ass some parts of the world is with racism but my head just doesn’t factor skin colour into any decision and that leads me to not consider it’s part of other peoples decision making as well.

White guys all get lessor punishments, hockey isn't friendly to black players. White Princeton dude with red neck mustache suspends him excessively.

Kadri needs to call Ben Crump, not only will his suspension be reduced to 0 Parros will have to pay Kadri.

I am for this, ride it out Kadri you have been targeted for years.

I don't think race is an issue, but I could see how it could gain steam on social media based on what I have observed in recent years. The one saving grace for the NHL is that it normally ranks just higher than the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in the US national consciousness.

Not sure picking a black guy as an example is the best approach here

Race never crossed my mind I think if anything it’s a make up call for the Tom Wilson thing. I’ll take anything at this point to get it reduced.

It’s not even a make up call. Kadri’s last suspension was 5 games. Now as a repeat offender he got 8. It’s text book.
