What good is having the puck in the offensive zone every time you are on the ice? Your team doesn't give up goals. You can change momentum of the game. Good shifts in theory make it easier for the next group on the ice because the other team has to dump and change. You prefer watching Panarin throw it blindly in front of the net? Might lead to a scoring chance. Also 8 for the other team. You enjoy watching Mika in the defensive zone all the time?

At 5v5 I don't feel comfortable when any other line is on the ice. That has to count for something.
I never said any of that that’s a lot of assumption on your part, obviously possession overall is a positive thing but you have to start doing something meaningful with that possession at some point for him to be an effective player for us, he’s not here to be a 4th line grinder who just pins the other team and softens them up for other lines like he’s Pat Maroon

He has moments where he looks like he’s figured it out but then you see him holding the puck too long on numerous scoring opportunities like last night and it’s obvious he still hasn’t figured out he doesn’t have the amount of time he used to have and needs to do everything quicker along with being more decisive

I’m not a fan of Panarins giveaways either and I’ve voiced my concerns about that numerous times

He did not... NOT have the puck in the O-zone every time he was on the ice. Not even close.

No one did so this isn't an indictment on him particularly...

When he does have it on his stick, he never finds anyone for a pass or gets off a shot.

He was better than most on our squad last night tho, which is not saying much.

You expect him to score or assist in every game? His line was doing well in limited minutes. He was a big part of it. They haven't the last 2 games. I'd love to see what they could do with more TOI. Panarin's line has been an absolute waste and they are on the ice for almost double. So that's twice the time and they spend almost all of it defending. Makes no sense.

Look at the analytics. You are not correct. He was in the ozone more than anyone on either team. By a wide margin. No shots on Igor while he played. He needs to do better when he has the puck on his stick. No disagreement there.

Again, I never said that and you can stop putting words in my mouth, I’m only addressing his individual play, yes he and the rest of the kid line have done very well for us and I would even agree that they deserve more ice time than they get but that doesn’t change anything about the point I was making which is that he too often has the play die on his blade in prime scoring areas because he’s too indecisive and hasn’t adjusted to having less time and space to play his game

Watching him pre draft I thought he would be a monster with the style he was playing but in hindsight it’s possible he looked that way because he just had more ice to work with and to get back to that level he needs to have an uptick in his processing speed

I was at the game w good seats and I don't, nor have I ever cared much about analytics WITHOUT...

I repeat... WITHOUT watching the game.

I'm sure his corgis (yes intentional) were ok and again, better than the "team" if thats what they were last night but Tampa had the puck 90% of that game and in the moments we did, we were never a threat.

I expect to see all of you on every players individual page complaining. Otherwise, ask yourself why you are on the page of a 21 year old who, while could have been better, was better than everyone else on our team yesterday.

Ask yourself why you care so much. Your name tells the story I guess.

I'm here because the thread was bumped to the top... higher than the PGT even and I thought something happened.

Motte was the best player for us BTW and then Zbad

KK was in the top-5 tho. Does that help?

Motte was good too. Zbad has at least been giving an effort even if his line gives up way too many goals.

Weird fan base. I'll change my name. Don't care. I root for the team. If the kid line was awful, and line 4 was dominating, i'd want more Reaves time. If Panarin was doing anything, i'd want more line 2. I just want GG to reward those who are playing well (or if basically everyone is bad like most on this site believe, rewards those playing least bad).

21 year old kid and people are turning on him like he's to blame for our $11 million winger, our 50 goal scorer, our number one center, and Norris winning defenseman not showing up in game 4.
He just will never be accepted here by many. It is what it is. I'm gonna take a break from arguing with these people. When he is great in game 5, they won't show up here anyway or will find a new reason to complain.

There wasn’t any arguing, you bumped this thread to the top with a post this morning and I kindly responded to it clearly stating I wasn’t picking a fight with you, all I was doing was making an honest assessment of what he needs to improve upon to get to where we all want him to be and you responded twice with strawman arguments

I’m pretty sure the majority of us want him to succeed because it’s in our best interest to do so

Plus the “he will never be accepted” schtick sounds like a victimized mother protecting her precious baby from bullies. Kakko is well accepted. EVERYONE here wants him to succeed. We just all watch the games and leave 90% of them disappointed.

It’s like we are a teacher and we have this nice kid in class, by all accounts a genuine good boy, but he just struggles. He turns in his homework, but half of it’s wrong. He fails the tests. His essay was pretty off the mark. We call a parent teacher conference and Cuckoo shows up saying “but he’s a good boy! He has perfect attendance and does all of his homework! He never skips school or gets in any trouble! His underlying metrics show he’s a great student!”

And we’re like “that’s great, your son is a really nice young man and what you said is true but, uh… he still can’t graduate if he can’t pass a test”.

And now she wants to talk to the principle about a problem with the teacher because it’s just not possible that, despite doing the right things, her son just isn’t that bright.

Dude, you like every post that says anything bad about him. You were super quiet when we were winning and line 3 was getting points. You posted here, but not about Kakko. But whenever we lose, here you are!

I look forward to you hiding after game 5. As a Rangers fan, I bet you do too.

I won't hide in the GG thread if he makes smarter decisions and we win. I'll happily show up and give him credit.

What hiding? I’m probably in the top 5 most present posters on the boards.

In case you’ve missed it, I have literally led the Panarin hate train for the entire playoffs. Including when he puts points on the board.

The reason people are responding in this thread is because every time Kakko does anything half way competent you get on your soap box and crow about how the haters can suck it. At this point, we’re more responding to you than saying anything new about Kakko. He’s a kid. Sometimes he’s really good. Most times he’s really underwhelming. Other times he’s just meh and kind of in the middle. I don’t think anyone has said much aside from that, but they have been goaded by your insistence that Kakko is the least reproachable player on the roster.

I know a lot of us disagree with Gallant’s roster decisions. There’s also a pretty good reason most of us are HF posters and not gainfully employed by the NHL. While I would like to see MORE Kakko, and less 4th line, less 5v5 Panarin, etc. Gallant does have us 2 games away from the Stanley Cup and just finished as a finalist for best coach in the league (not for the first time, either) so there MAY be a reason Kakko sees so little ice. Maybe he’s being explicitly asked to do something and not doing it? Who knows. I highly doubt that it’s gross incompetence - contrary to what many reactionaries on here think after a game like last night - when we’re carrying home ice advantage into a best of 3 for a ticket to the Cup.

I’m going to have to trust the coach whose gotten us this far, and my own eyes, over your very compelling posts.

If that’s all you took out of it, you’re being willfully obtuse. There are other threads and I’m not suggesting you’re a bad poster. You have a pretty stiff one for Kakko and it seems like a majority disagree with you on this particular topic. All I said was that a good portion of the replies aren’t people looking to shit in KK but replies to your tireless crusade his name. No one dislikes Kakko. A lot of us just aren’t seeing nearly as much to be positive about in his game as you are.

I'll take that bet

EVERY poster on this board would love nothing more than to have Kakko break out. In these playoffs? Even better.

In game 5? FAN f***ING TASTIC

Well I can say all the kids have been dissappointing this season, again.

Kakko has 0,38 PPG playoffs included
Laf has 0,41 PPG playoffs included
Chytil has 0,37 PPG playofss included

Also Kakko was injured most of the season which is shame because he had nice streak going on end of the year.

People here are talking about how Kakko's possession of the puck is useless if he doesnt produce. Well so is Laf's checking game and "buzzing" if he doesnt produce and the numbers with the kids are pretty much same as we can see above. Most impressive in playoffs has been Chytil from these three.
