To be fair, what good is possession when he almost never does anything with it and quite frankly holds onto the puck too long way too often and squanders an opportunity? Not picking a fight with you, I love the kid but he needs to stop thinking and start playing when the puck hits his blade
Holding the puck in the offensive zone means at worst that the other team won’t score.

It’s also a rare trait to be able to maintain possession in the offensive zone and as Kakko’s decision making and confidence improves he will start putting up more points.

So basically exactly what I said he needs to do, improve his decision making and this myth that I said possession isn’t important can die right here too

People were telling me I was crazy when I suggested Kakko would be the first guy out if Blais came back.

Blais didn't even have to come back and Kakko got scratched.

:laugh::cry:

I do not want KK scratched but if we do I will understand. I have said for a while KK has to produce. Just cycling for 5 seconds is not enough. With that said I do not know that we have anyone better than him healthy.

There's a reason Gallant never lasts even 3 years with a team. Let's not pretend he's a coach that is praised for his stellar decision-making.

With all due respect…

And no, I’m not always happy with his decisions myself…

But while we’re “not pretending” he gets praised for stellar decision making… he’s just a multi-season Jack Adam’s finalist and you’re just “stat boy”.

First of all, nothing has been confirmed. Second of all… whichever decision is made:

Not only are neither of us employed by an NHL franchise, but in addition to Gallant having multiple nominations for best coach in the NHL (again, we don’t have to agree that they’re deserved - I personally find some things about all coaches to be maddening, but here I am on my couch - his accolades simply FAR out class ours and, like it or not, with how far we’ve gotten, he is owed the benefit of the doubt) he also has an entire coaching staff that I’m sure is at least consulted on these types of things to some extent as well as a GM to answer to if they believe his decisions to be preposterous.

In other words, while I don’t personally like seeing Kakko scratched, let’s “not pretend” as if Gallant is the only PROFESSIONAL coach in this organization who feels this is an okay move, or at the least no one feels strongly enough to vehemently disagree. Let’s also not pretend, as much as we both want it to be otherwise, that your Twitter clout or me being a “prominent poster” gives us any actual credential to so simply scoff at Gerard Gallant. I find coaches and GMs to be maddening often and there are times where I feel like saying “see, I was right” but at the end of the day, Gallant was an NHL players and IS an accomplished NHL coach. I’m just a dude who wants Kakko in the lineup. So are you. It seems that no one in the NYR organization disagrees, at least not strongly, with the decision to scratch our 2OA kid.

Yeah I don't understand why he is struggling so much and I don't understand why it is too much to finish a check at least once per game.

Sure. But don't forget we aren't scratching people who are struggling more. It's an odd choice splitting up a line that gave you scoring chances. But they didn't play enough anyway so it is what it is. If we lose, I hope the press holds him accountable.

Very questionable decision scratching Kakko.

If they lose being scratched will be Kakkos lasting impression over the summer. If they win they likely stick with the same lineup at home and he misses out on that experience.

If I were Kakko I’d feel pretty alienated given the fact that I worked through some tough injuries, played well in the playoffs getting good experience for the future only to be scratch in an elimination game in the conference final.

There’s that possibly of him being offer sheeted, he’s got a new contract coming up soon. I just think it isn’t great for him and I’d be pretty pissed if I was Kakko. As a fan of his I’m very unhappy about it.

For me this playoffs was like a bonus, it was all about the youth we sacrificed several years to bring in here. Everything was gravy after the Pitt win. That’s kinda changed now with this decision. I know it’s one game but it makes me feel kinda shitty about the whole thing

it is easy, this coach needed a scapegoat, he found one. Hopefully it is not enough to save him if we lose tonight.

I'm a fan of GG but I absolutely hate that move. You're having trouble scoring so you scratch KK? You break up the kid line and blend up the lines but somehow keep that dumpster fire 2nd line together? Just bizarre. I've been trying to hold out until the end of the game because if they win and force game 7 all is forgotten, but if they lose it looks awful
