Mika was getting f***ing trashed through 40 and 20 minutes later he's being treated like he's healed lmao.

Easily the first star of this game though. Entire comeback was sparked by him.

I still don't like the Miller line (Mika should be playing at C) and absolutely f***ing abhor the 3rd line. Brodzinski is fine as a 13th forward, he should not be in a NHL top 9.

Funny how Lavi went from shoehorning Kreider and Zibanejad together to now being hell bent on keeping them apart (probably for the best.) Wish he kept that same energy with Lindgren-Fox.

Eventually they are going to have to move Zibanejad back to center, that 3rd line is atrocious. Panarin-Miller-Lafreniere, Cuylle-Zibanejad-Smith, Kreider-Trocheck-Kaliyev. Another thing is, with all the wing prospects we have if Mika is a winger now that complicates things a bit.

I know he had great game today but why is Mika beyond going to the 3rd line? Why does it have to be Trocheck?

Revenge for AP getting 3 knuckles deep in JT Miller's ass on Laf's goal.

Seriously though, I don't think you can do it any better than this. Completely leveled him and good on AP for getting up and shaking that off instead of staying down trying to draw something. Would be peak NJD behavior.

Kreider looks pretty washed but he's still useful on the PP. He's due some heavy regression there but he just isn't doing anything 5v5. If he is hurt (and I don't think it's anything serious, he hasn't missed significant time and looks like he's still going to go to 4 nations) he needs to be pulled from the lineup until he's right. Both he and Lavi need to knock that shit off. Playing guys when they're not 100% helps nobody. This team's season got derailed by fishbowl Lindgren being smashed into the top 4 for no reason. Current Kreider is a detriment at ES right now and they either need to get him right so he can actually help (if thats a thing) or remove him from the lineup and replace him with someone who can.

Miller has been by far the team's best defender since Jan 1. Tops in xGF/60 and xGA/60. He and Borgen are eating all the tough matchups too. WS55 is killing Fox. He's beyond Staal/Girardi at this point and in a class of his own. He's in Tanner Glass/Cody McLeod territory and he's doing it in a top 4 role.

Miller-Fox was really good before Lavi wanted to nuke it for no reason. It may not be a bad idea to revisit that and f*** with possibly trying to parlay some other pieces into a LHD to play with Borgen (or just give Schenider a shot and pair Vak with a PMD.)

It’s not wild to think that playing lindgren with Fox is the only way to “hide”‘him because he’d make any other pairing too terrible
You can't hide him, while actively killing Fox in the process, matching him up against the top lines of other teams 20 minutes a night. If this is how Lav is hiding Lindgren,he needs his head checked. The best way to hide Lindgren is put him in a different uniform

It makes me wonder that the amount of games played over the last few seasons has them drained and tired and mentally exhausted , but then I was saying teams like Tampa bay, Vegas, Pittsburgh (not the last couple),Carolina, just examples are able to compete for so many years in the top echelon of the league . They modified their core players and changed with the times. also they developed some youngsters
Now you look at the penguins now with their aging core. That what not changing them out looks like and now we are seeing it before our eyes. I hope that I am wrong. Changes need to be made and the sooner the better
Again congratulations to Quick and for that win tonight. Thanks to the core for showing up and playing a good game. JT Miller great acquisition so far hope he can toughen them up

Mika is the better player by a wide margin. If Millers arrival sparked something in him and he has found his mojo again then the team will benefit from him playing higher up in the line up. Also, the Cuylle-Mika-Smith line was our best line at generating offence for over a month. Let them cook now that Mika seemingly is heating up.

Trocheck is fine as the 3rd center.

It shouldn't. I went to a ton of early 80s NY Islanders games cuz that was a great team to watch. What did they win, 19 playoff series in a row?

They were the nicest guys you could encounter after a game, but those dudes were all business on the ice. You never ever heard a peep about mental or physical fatigue or any form of excuse from those dudes.

Yes, today's game is faster than the 80s. But there are also advances in training, preparation, recovery, player safety, medical staff, and knowledge of physiology.

I think you nailed it with what you alluded to in the examples of other teams you mentioned.

You may want to slow your roll. Mika has been awful for almost two seasons. One game is not nearly a large enough sample size to reverse his history. To add, if Mika is suddenly fixed now that he is playing with JT, is it really Mika? I hope he does turn it around and gets back to the guy we all loved, but I'm going to wait a while before I make that call.
