Rumor: Just Kidding! Pettersson and JT Miller Trade Reunion!

Give me a break, no one is saying he is worthless. This is a thread about value of one vs the other, he just isn’t worth a Marner in any way shape or form. Period.

Still a very good player, but one is worth way more than the other.

Google it, pretty simple.
See here's the thing

Not even 7 months ago marner was again the subject of "get him out of here" comments for like the 3rd or 4th year in a row

Now he's untouchable to some extent

If you don't see how amusing this is that's an issue not an ish-me

OMG Luo still hasn't been traded!!!!!

Wait NVM, this thread just gave me flashbacks lol !

Read my previous post where I speak to the fact that Leaf nation always has to have a whipping boy. It doesn’t make them right. Marner is part of the solution not the problem!

How many years in a row have the leafs made the playoffs?

How many rounds has Marner helped them win in that time?

Marco Kasper keeps playing like this on a top line in the NHL, another 3 pts tonight and 11 in 10, the Canucks might start looking more at that futures deal from Detroit for Pettersson.

Not sure Detroit should even be thinking about moving some of their young guys right now. If they are going to move younger players to get better it should be people like Lombardi and wallinder.

Oh I’m sorry, is this a one man sport? Didn’t realize I wandered into the golf and tennis boards. Sorry about that.

All game seven losses and almost all undone by goaltending. But please do tell how Marner is the reason the Leafs haven’t done well in the playoffs.

And we are talking about Mike Babcock! It isn’t just what he did as coach of the Leafs. He did it in Detroit and there are a million stories out there about players hating him for his abuse. He was hired as coach of The Jackets and fired within days for more stupid crap he pulled.
Thought you were talking about Pettersson. Was like what? When did this happen?
🤣

Except this year they have the space to improve the bottom six and a few assets that could get them the top players available. They also have a goaltending duo that can be trusted not to necessarily steal games, which they can do on occasion, but to at least not lose them games.

The team this year is a vastly different animal than in years past. If Tre can bulk up that third line and add a dependable #5 dman, this is a team that no one will want to face and can beat anyone in a 7 game series.

Now, getting back to the point of the thread because people like to derail it in the Leaf bitch fest, there is not one single GM in the NHL that would make a trade of Marner at 13 mil(give or take on new contract) for Pettersson at 11.6. Not one single GM. And anyone thinking otherwise is out to lunch.
I've heard this is "the best Leafs team ever" every year for the past 8 years. I'm inclined to agree with you about the goaltending, but the rest is more of the same. Another random cast of interchangeable middle/bottom 6ers after the overpaid 4, and a defence group where every player is playing one spot higher in the lineup than they should be.

As to your last point, I genuinely don't know which GM would say no to that trade. Yes Marner is more consistently a 90ish point player in the regular season, but he's also consistently been a $6m every playoff. He's certainly not $2m better than EP, and if I were a GM building a cup winner I wouldn't take either player at even $7m.

Reading the EP for Marner thread was honestly hilarious, Canucks and Leafs fans arguing about who's turd is shinier.

Marner is more consistent every regular season and disappoints every playoff, EP has his peaks and valleys but his peak playoff is much better than Marner's.
Neither player is the selke caliber forward their fanbase thinks of them as.
Both are big time piss-babies, Marner crying to get his coach fired, and EP sulking to get his teammate traded.

If I had to take one today I'd take Marner easily, because he's a pending UFA and can be traded at the deadline with no long term cap dumps coming back. If I had to take one this summer with Marner on a new contract, I'd say none of the above. But gun to my head I need to have one on my team its EP because he's cheaper

Yup. He's the exact opposite of the type of player you win with.

His fan club loves to bring up a Patrick Kane comparison, and while they might have somewhat similar play styles, Kane has always stepped up in big games.
Kane is the definition of big game player

No point talking marner, He is 100% Leaving Toronto and not getting traded.
Let's not kid ourselves.

As for JT Miller, Tonight is a good example of what he provides when he is "on"
A Fight, Points, grit, basically the whole package.

For Pettersson, The more i think about it, the more i am interested in a trade, but only for a legit overpayment
