I've heard this is "the best Leafs team ever" every year for the past 8 years. I'm inclined to agree with you about the goaltending, but the rest is more of the same. Another random cast of interchangeable middle/bottom 6ers after the overpaid 4, and a defence group where every player is playing one spot higher in the lineup than they should be.

As to your last point, I genuinely don't know which GM would say no to that trade. Yes Marner is more consistently a 90ish point player in the regular season, but he's also consistently been a $6m every playoff. He's certainly not $2m better than EP, and if I were a GM building a cup winner I wouldn't take either player at even $7m.

Drury is trying to save face because he could’ve had Miller 3 years ago for 2 playoff runs at a $5.25M cap hit, at the height of Miller’s prime, and wouldn’t pull the trigger because he refused to move Braden Schneider. Rangers probably win the cup in ‘22 with JT Miller in their top 6 instead of Andrew Copp. Drury is an absolute donkey.

It's the other way around. I'd be shocked if Marner leaves the Leafs. They will figure it out and Tavares will take less to stay.

Yes, he’s a very soft player. Exeryone knows that. But focusing on that in your reply ignores how everyone plays this shell game or Wackamole when it comes to complaining about how inconsequential he routinely is in the post season. It’s a game of deflection. “Marner’s bad in the playoffs” is met with “well, what about _______?” Does this guy ever have to stand on his own two feet? When Leafs fans talk about how much he scores, they focus on how it’s him doing it. But when it comes to his failure of the post seasons, it’s let’s have him hide behind someone else.
