Would have to agree.
However, Miller for Kotkaniemi + Roslovic + ???, is essentially a wash, cap-wise for the Canes this season and only adds $3.2M for the next few seasons, while Miller is almost certain to out-produce Kotkaniemi for those seasons. $3.2M on the Canes’s books shouldn’t have too big an effect on what they can offer Rantanen.
The Canes will have roughly $35-$40M in cap space to play with this summer (expected cap range from $92-97M) with most of their core locked up and with just a few holes to fill and some of them sure to be filled with ELC players. The extra $3.2M of Miller’s deal might become problematic once the next round of ELC players are due (Nikishin/Morrow/Blake) for new deals, but probably not if the cap rises like it’s predicted to. They can offer Rantanen a competitive 8yr deal, absorb Millet AND still have space to comfortably fill out the roster.
Question would be, are the Canucks that enamored with Kotkaniemi to accept him + Roslovic and what would the other + be?
I’d love for the Canes to re-visit Pettersson, but I don’t think they have the ammunition to get him anymore without Necas.
