Don't offer sheet Aho and the Canes don't offer sheet Kotkaniemi. Simple as that. They were looking for revenge and I don't care if they say they were not.

What fans don't know is when the Canes contacted KK's agent. Newhook or Dach could have been offer sheeted bud. This problem with KK/Canes comes from the Aho offer sheet.

* Newhook signed his deal on July 11th
* Dach signed his deal on Sept 7th
* KK signed his deal on July 1st.

Your dates are off. And the Canes tried to trade for KK first, going further and dropping an OS when the Habs turned them down was fair game (from their point of view) because of Bergevin previous transgression.

Lol......saying that they offered to trade for him by offering less than RFA compensation is hardly a genuine attempt.

Also, as far as I recall there was no trade offer......I am pretty sure than is just another HF truism .

A very big factor was that KK actively wanted out of MTL, after being scratched in the final he say he would not resign with MTL having Canes looking for pay back, work out for KK and Canes.

The only HF truism is they offered less than the compensation, which is just a way to deny the reality that a welfare team bullied the billion dollars franchise they cheer for into submission and forced it into a bad trade for a player the Habs themselves had previously deemed not worthy of a 1st round pick.

It's the very idea of trading KK that got turned down, Bergy wasn't interested since he had no one else to play in that spot, then he got the heads-up that if wasn't willing to talk the OS would drop, our dear unsuspecting idiot decided to call their bluff and the rest is history.

It's not that we drafted the next Ovechkin.
It's a guy who on a strong draft wouldn't be even in Top 10 so it's better to lessen our expectations and give him time. In time, he'll become a 50+ pts player. I'm sure of it.

I think one issue is most power forwards in history never won a cup. It was never part of the recipe for any dynasty. I don't get what a unicorn would do that a #1 d or C wouldn't but that's just me. Half or more of the games I watch Slaf are so discouraging he is clearly a low IQ player.

He had a good game tonight. Much better than Saturday. His IQ is probably an issue. Nevertheless he has some finesse with his stick, he’s heavy and he has a wide wing span. Tools where he could play more of a power forward game.

Unfortunately, he rarely forces himself to the front of the net or the slot. It’s not a question of IQ per se, of being at the right time at the right place or anticipating, it’s a question of switching it on. Why is this not happening?

Once again, he did lots of good things tonight, but he could be more effective if he played a power game.

Because not everything is going to fall into place at the same time.

He is handling it much better than last year and that's without playing significant hockey for close to 9 months. Effectiveness in his game should come in due time.

Why do you say that?

He makes bad decisions sometimes. I presume the issue is IQ unless proven otherwise. However, IQ is less critical in a power forward than a skilled forward and other aspects of his game bug me more at this point in time than his IQ.

PS: I know I’m being picky and difficult.

Ugh, RHP is a 4th line journeyman who will contribute in small ways throughout his career. There is nothing special he brings to the team, that dozens of other 4th liners for every other team already do...
He will never be a useful 3rd liner either, as he lacks size, so just accept him as a 5th rnd success story who earned an NHL paycheck.

Kids improving, just going to get stronger.
I was at the game tonight, and spent a lot of time just watching Slaf without the puck.. his routes are getting cleaner, decision making is improving, head is up and seems more relaxed out there. I am no longer "worried" he will be a bust... He's a kid in a big mans body, so is still too loose on his stance along the boards, but will continue to improve.
Im impressed with his development so far, and predict once he hits his stride and confidence builds there will be no stopping him on his way to becomming a ppg player.
