No, you simply lied and omitted the D+1 season in college. Think we’re fools?

Lol what? Even if you insist to include UoC, his development was still done by splitting time between the NHL and the AHL. So how is it very very far from the NHL?

“Even if you insist to include his college league, where he played in his D+1, why would you say he developed outside of the NHL?”

Because he played in college in his D+1

So you are basically saying his development was completed the moment he left UoC? Are you serious?

No, not at all. Not remotely.

You omitted the D+1 college league to make a (failed) comparison with Thompson.

The development Thompson cannot be compared with Slafkovksy in any way. It’s too late. Slaf is in his D+2 and has only played in the NHL.

No? Then he did not develop very very far from the NHL.

I compared no one to Thompson. And I'm still waiting for a rational explanation on how someone who split time between the NHL and the AHL during his entire ELC and wasn't developed by the time he left college was effectively developed very very far from the NHL.

Dude stop.

Reality is that following his draft, Thompson played 34 games in the NCAA, 83 games in the AHL, and 7 games in the WJCs. That's 124 games total.

And the NHL games he played during that time frame just vanished? For the sake of the argument we'll stop counting at the 2019-20 season (he won't break out in the NHL until 2021-22, 2 seasons later) He still played most of his pro games IN the NHL by that point.

Saying Thompson got to develop his game very very far from the NHL is probably the most inaccurate way to describe Thompson development.

I thought he was playing a good game tonight, made some good reads defensively too.

So he’s rewarded by sitting the last 10 mins to protect a tie.

Was it really the last 10? I thought the last 5. But yeah, the insistence on having two centres just in case you might ice it is stupid. Because it’s not like Evans brings more offence

I don't think it had anything to do with wanting 2Cs, I think it has everything to do with the year on Slafkovaky’s birth certificate.

People can say Martin St. Louis has the focus fully on the kids at all times, but reality is as long as they’re playing .500 hockey or somewhere close to that, they’ll be all in on getting the wins. If they don’t view Slafkovsky as a player they trust in those situations, that’s where he’ll miss out.

Game was tied.

But yes I get that, but again I'll ask, if you don’t trust him on the ice in a tie game with 7 mins left.

Then why is he on the team? Lol

It's just bizarre to me…but I've seen them do this time and time again.

MSL's win at all cost mentality is annoying and dumb, I thought development was the priority? If you're going to keep the kid in the NHL play him in all situations, including clutch time. If we lose we lose, who cares.

The proof is in the pudding that they're handling him like clowns.

Coach wanted to end his 4 games losing skid tonight but...
If that kind of "reward" become systematic Slaf will need to go play somewhere else.

Even if he wanted to end the 4 game losing streak, the fact remains, if as a coach you’ve decided that, in a tie game mind you, that a certain player isn't trustworthy enough to see the ice for the last 7 mins.

Then you're essentially saying he’s not good enough to be on the team.

But I don't that that's really the case, it's just an easy move to bench Slafkovsky just like its an easy move to bench Ylonen.

It's not based on what's happened during the game because Slafkovsky made several defensive reads that were good…so IMO, it's not coaching in-game.

Relying on the vets when the heat is on is one of the oldest coach "reflex" (for lack of better word).

The thing is, getting benched when you have a good game is poison and if it happen often this is a very good way to have a player doubt himself.

Oh it's definitely that, weird part for me is more often than not, it's the veterans that let you down the most often.

I agree. Good to see more and more posts appreciating his play. I think he's honing his NHL game very well. And although MSL still does this the odd time, it's OK in the big picture IMO.

Slaf is clearly being told just to combine good positioning and on-ice awareness with his natural instinctiveness (which I believe is high level) and not worry about points. And that in time the points will come.

Again, like you said, he made so many nice plays tonight. That one pass he zipped through the top of the slot to Dvorak was super-high skilled. There was very little room to make it and like happens often with the recipient, they don't expect it so they're not ready for it. Dvorak fumbled it. Would've been a stellar scoring opportunity. He has excellent vision.
