Ever stop to consider that the guys you quote, are just....you know....fans of the team? Cheering for the guy and looking for positives? Anger much?
That’s perfectly fine, admirable even, but the subtext sadly isn’t “let’s root for the best!” it’s more like “don’t criticize the Habs, they know best”.
Because we’re referring to the development of our tank prize and how he’s nowhere close to being a relevant NHL player. He’s already been surpassed by Cooley. How many more will zip by him as he stagnates and struggles to follow basic hockey plays?
We shouldn’t sugar coat the truth: the Habs got this wrong. If you want to be optimistic you can say there is still time to course correct.
Meanwhile the Habs and Habs commentators want us to tank and tank and tank and tank and lose and lose and lose and lose. So how does that square with being positive?
I would want nothing more than to cheer for this team to win hockey games. That means players who contribute should be praised and those who don’t should not be praised. If you want to be results-based, Slafkovsky is not bringing results. If you want to be performance-based, Slafkovsky is not performing. So what is there we have to cheer on?
Send him to the AHL for heaven’s sake
