I dont think you understand what I was trying to say. I wasn't referring to Kotkaniemi. I'm just saying he looks strong on his skates for a big lanky guy.

On the subject of Kotkaniemi.
Slafkovsky in my eyes is more talented. KK was more fiesty.

I don't think you understand what I was saying. Wasting a guy's ELC on developing years is bad practice, and KK showed us why.

I have a very serious question, and be honest here.

Considering Mesar had to play in Juniors... 2 years in a row after being drafted....

How much better is Slafkowsky compared to Mesar?

Is Slaf THAT much better than he should be in the NHL, is what I am getting at...

I'll assume that Kucherov was drafted late due to a Russian factor.

Datayuk, Zetterberg, Messier, Brett Hull and Petr Bondra were drafted in the previous century.
When is the last time a 1oa pick looked as lost as slaf in his d+2 season?

2022 is an unprecedented draft year

ngl your comment made me laugh out loud.

Slaf is gonna end up another Drou-drou isn't he...

27 years old and still some people will be saying: LET HIM COOK...

I'm legit starting a 150 game clock tonight.

Maybe I'm the goldfish here but I remember Kotkaniemi signing a oversheet that we didn't match. How is that the same thing? 😂

It's not necessarily the same thing, but it's a risk you take when you burn ELC years. If KK had played in Liiga, or AHL just one year he wouldn't have been eligible for an offer sheet.

Development, contract control, getting good production out of cheap ELC years are all reasons to not play him in the NHL until he's ready to contribute. It's unclear what we get by playing him in the NHL.

Anyhow guys. After reading 80 pages and seeing the same things being said over and over, by both sides its gotten pretty stale and a little unhinged.

Let's take a deep breath and stop obsessing about it. He's going to be the player he's going to be.

Seeing all the negativy. I thought he looked good the last few games. It feels like some people are trolling or just obsessed with being right.

Its a head scratcher. I see a player there but it's impossible to know how good he can be right now.

We're hopelessly depressed that we drafted 1st OA in a year with no clear cut superstar.

I thoroughly agree with both of those statements. It's like some people want him to fail just so they can say "I told you so". I am not as high as others are on some of our prospects...but I 100% hope I'm dead-wrong. Cheers.

Patrik Stefan and Nail Yakupov are two. The 2022 draft was relatively weak. Would he still be this disappointing if he was drafted 5th overall? Consensus seems to be that he would be a top ten draft regardles.
Slaf has a positive attitude despite the negative fans and media. He wants to improve and we have seen positive glimpses.

I dont know why you would worry about that. Aren't you one of the ones who thinks he's a bust?

He was here last year because we were not competing. If you want to question how MSL uses him fine. I have some questions myself, but it's all just theory. He looks better this year than he did last year. His lack of production playing with Newhook & Anderson is forgivable, given his experience and roll. He looked good with Dach and I liked his recent games with Suzuki.

He could have easily had 3 or 4 points in his last 2 games. He's getting some nice looks, he's been a bit unluckily.

Not trying to derail the Hutson thread into yet another slaf thread.

Just saying it's easy to believe that once in a decade bad luck could happen to us but not once in a decade good luck?

I hear you man, he still could end up being a star, maybe even a superstar one day. Guys like Draisaitl, Hughes didn't start strong. Thompson broke out at 24.

I'm here to support him. I'm not making stuff up to defend him. I legit think he'll be good.

What? No. I think he has a lot of potential, just that he has a long way to go.

There were a number of bad faith posters saying he was a slow skater during the down time when he was injured. It's embarrassing the level of dishonesty some people will sink to in order to seem right on the internet.
Nothing in bad faith when a profession scout was on the morning show last year stating that Slaf was on the cusp of having been on his no-draft list because his skating speed was clocked at just above the minimum level of all active NHLers.

Pure, absolute honesty based on the data collected by, again, a professional scout and his organization's analytics.

I also think he'll be good.

A good 3rd liner.

McCagg was a professional scout, means nothing.

Kent Johnson is in the AHL after putting 40 points last year in his D+2.

Dylan Guenther is in the AHL after putting 15 points in 33 games last season in his D+2.

I have this feeling that they are being properly evaluated, developped and cared by their organisation. Nothing itchy here.

I'm not in a rush. He can play in the NHL. I'll give him another 100-150 games and see where he's at.

Dach is out for the season. Newhook hasn't convinced me. Getting another top pick would be ideal. Dach can heal up, Slaf & Reinbacher can grow and we can go from there
150 more games ? that's full bust territory at that point and waaay to late to send him down. too late at that point

Nobody was fool to waste 1OA pick on Thompson.
That year's 1OA was Matthews who broke out the second he stepped on the ice.
Thompson broke out at 24? Not bad for 26th OA.
Nobody here would write one bad word about Slaf if he was picked 26th.
