Player Discussion JT Miller Thread

I thought that was his best game so far. Yea that toss up the middle was a bozo moment, but any beer league goalie should have saved that 'shot'.

He had a bunch of shifts as a 1 man cycle show, something we haven't seen since last season. When he's in that zone, no one can take the puck from him, and he generates a ton of scoring chances. He's getting a bit faster each game.

Once a bozo, always a bozo. He can't shed the Bozo Miller nickname.

deserves to be scracchted. not just podkolzins or hoglandeer the usual suspects
He does deserve it for sure.

He has been unplayable as a center this year.

But.. I don't think he would respond well to that treatment. IMO it is of utmost importance that get him going so there is a tiny sliver of a chance someone is willing to take on his 56 mil extension.

Punishing him does not make me feel any better.

Pumping up his value and shipping him off would. What ever that looks like.

In summer people were surprised by how the front office had been holding a line on Miller and it looked like all of a sudden we caved and gave him what he asked for. The more JR talks about this team to the media, the more I'm coming around on the idea that it was an Aqua directed move to cave on Miller.

In a better world we'd staple him to Pettersson's wing to rack up points and ship him out asap for whatever we can get. Maybe Calgary would take him, they like our players and don't seem to care at all about 3-4 years from now.

f*** him and his precious feelings.

He’s being paid well to do a job. If he can’t do it then sit him till he does.

I got no patience to coddle an emo.

I am convinced we need to trade him for whatever we can get. He is not the type of player you build a winning team around. He puts us at risk of losing Pettersson when his contract is up. If we end up with no Horvat and no Pettersson in a couple of years because we decided to make JT Miller our franchise player I will never forgive this team.

I don't understand why JT Miller literally never gets the benefit of the doubt from people.

He had 99 points last year, but that somehow doesn't buy him one week of time when he gets off to a bad start the next season. He had a few bad games to start last year too, and it was the same thing, everyone screaming and calling him "bozo." It's weird. I really don't get why people are so eager to hate this player.

Brock Boeser, in contrast, has been completely terrible, and sucked for most of last season too, but people still give him the benefit of the doubt because he was good in like 2016. JT Miller could put up a hat trick 15 games in a row but the moment he plays two bad ones, people are frothing at the mouth. It's weird to me.

People. It's six games. Relax.
This take is aging like bread.

What does that say to the team?

You can be the laziest f***ing player on the team and not backcheck an inch, even when you're the one coughing up the puck, because you make $8m a year?

No wonder the culture on this team is so dogshit.

I really dont give a f*** at this point.

The culture in this group isn't going to be fixed with sitting Miller. This is a lost year anyways.

The failing with management when it comes to Miller is they truly thought he was a center. They weren't receiving trade offers that reflected that so they signed him to a contract extension that did. People may remember some media chatter that the rest of the league only viewed him as a winger....the rest of the league was correct.

The thing is Miller’s defensive results have been bad for years. His ES xGA/60 from 2020 to 2022 is identical to this season. The difference was he could drive play offensively well enough, particularly in terms of SH% (his on ice SH% is well over 11% since he got here) to overcome his defensive deficiencies. This year he is closer to league average at 8.5%.

What remains to be seen is if this is a blip or not.

It's likely a blip in so far as he will likely improve. But it's also not really a blip because this is what JT Miller is...a player who will play hard when he wants to paly hard. And when he does play hard he drives that play. He's also a player that will go through the motions when he wants to go through the motions and be a net negative on the ice.

He's also soon to be 30yr old, guys. I know he just signed a massive extension and people want to believe the best is yet to come, but the sad fact is we have to soon accept the fact that he's most likely starting to decline. These are likely no blips, and the best is not yet to come.

I predict he's got 2 good years left before he really starts to look like an anchor of a contract out there.

Of course, I could be completely wrong. But I never viewed Miller as an elite level player. I saw/see him as a good, maybe even great player who was playing for the largest contract he could get. I don't see any realty where we have a 33yr old Miller out there leading the Canucks.

Enjoy the next cpl of years because after that things are going to look bad.

He is what he is.

If Horvat leaves one way or another, for the love of God don't make Miller the captain. I couldn't stand cheering for the team "led" by that lazy bozo.

Make this Pettersson's team.

If Horvat leaves I don’t see anyway you don’t give the C to Pettersson unless you don’t think he’s going to be here long term.

I just find it funny all last year people were trashing Horvat saying he wasn't a good Captain and Miller should be. Now a few games into this season Miller is being absolutely trashed by those same fans.

Don't get me wrong he deserves the criticism but the quickness of the complete turn is pretty funny. I actually can't wait to see how this all ends. Its like a Mexican soap.
