Player Discussion JT Miller Thread

I said Laff is going to take away Miller’s pk time.
He said game 2 showed that that’s not the case.
I said when Bluegar comes back then it’s going to be Bluegar and Laff playing the pk because Bluegar will be pk 1 and Laff will be pk2.

You guys have no f***ing clue what moving the post means.
You: Laf will take Millers PK time.

Laf doesnt take Millers PK time.

You: PK2 is also a thing!

He took Miller’s pk time in game 1.
He didnt in game 2.

If Laff wasn’t acquired and everyone is healthy, Bluegar would be pk1 and Miller would be pk2. With Laff here and everyone healthy, Bluegar will be pk1 and Laff will be pk2. Is it that hard for you guys to understand that?

I know EP has been a monster on the scoresheet, but to me Miller has been the best forward (Hughes has been our best player by far)

His defense has really improved this year, and he's been super consistent offensively, and when you combine that with his physicality, and faceoff ability... He's just been such a beast so far.

Hes playing his best in a Canucks uniform and probably in his career right now. Very noticeable in both ends of the ice. Kudos to him, if he keeps this up he’ll probably have yet another career year.

Hes playing so good that I almost forgot his contract takes him all the way to 2029. Let’s hope it doesnt end up being OEL 2.0

It's only 5 games so it's a small sample but JT MIller producing positive results 5v5 vs the oppositions best is a massive win for this team and a feather in his cap for proving he can transition to a 200ft C. His situational play in shootouts at 3v3 and PP are as good as anyone in the NHL and have always helped provide pts for this team. It's good to see and like you said if he can maintain it somewhat it could become his most complete and important season as a Canuck

Re: Contract...i see people post comps to a player like OEL and i get a little riled up. For one Miller gave the team 4yrs of PPG power forward performance at a cost of 5.25m which was an absolute steal and then when it came time for him to get paid he got extra term but he also took a little less to get it which helps to build a winner in the short term.

It's a huge difference to have a player rewarded in the organization where he earned his money vs a hired gun who has never done shit for Vancouver and then waltzes in and puts his feet in the air. (Eriksson Myers OEL Holtby etc) Those types of contracts are what sinks an organization in rapid fashion not one's like Miller's

When a warrior like Miller inevitably starts to break down and lose a step hopefully people in the city can understand the difference i just explained and the fact by then he probably has given the Canucks 7-9yrs of a top end impact player who takes shit from no one and is top10 all time in scoring.

It's actually impressive he has 307pts in 288 games which is a higher scoring pct than Pettersson (333 in 330) to date. Helps he showed up in his prime with Hughes and Pettersson but he stirs the drink on many nights and not many players in the league (top15 league wide during) can boast those types of numbers.

I understand your point but when major part OEL’s buyout and Miller’s decline hits at the same time we are gonna be having so much dead cap it’s gonna be ridiculous.
The next GM is gonna have the same cap problem much like what JB left behind.

He could’ve been someone else’s cap problem. We are very close to limbo right now and I think people don’t realise it.

Unless the GM pulls something out of his ass I don’t think the teams gonna have much success simply because of insufficient cap space.

Nobody knows when the f*** Miller will decline. If you follow the typical age curve he should be declining right now but it looks like he is playing better than his 99pt season.

1. No one knows when he will decline, the worst part of the OEL buyout is next two seasons.

2. The cap is only going up

It's hard to predict but I also think age curves doesn't take into account changes in league scoring, quality of teammates etc. Take Crosby and Ovehckin, they both had their best statistical seasons in their early 20s which reflects the "typical age curve" but it's kind of irrelevant as they remained amongst the best in the league. A lot of times with experience players tend to be more consistent as they are more focused on maintaining their body and have learned to pace themselves. I think many star level players are able to maintain their play into their 30s with a steeper decline happening usually at age 32/33 or after. Sedins had their best seasons at age 29/30 and there was a noticeable decline when they were 32/33 as well. Had they have more support we probably wouldn't notice their decline as much as it was their inability to carry the team offensively as 1st line players like before that was apparent.

let’s hope we’ll see it coming instead of him just hitting the wall one year
This guys not slowing down anytime soon, 32 NHL coaches would probably say the same thing.

And I think you agree as well.

Hughes might have the C on his sweater but so far JT has been the leader on the ice. His line has consistently been the best one and the one dragging the team into the fight. Here’s hoping he can keep it up for the rest of the year

I like him because he reminds me of me at work.

Serious, high expectations from his staff, no nonsense and delivers what is asked of him.

Nah.

Hughes has been the leader on and off the ice.

Miller has been fantastic still.

Attacks low level temp employees with stick swings and verbal abuse.

Miller may start to regress during his later years of his contract but IMO I think he’ll age similar to Jamie Benn/Ryan Smythe.

He’s 5 months away from being 31 and he looks FASTER than ever before. He has noticeably improved every year as he’s gotten older. Usually you’ll notice guys starting to decline slightly especially in terms of skating ability by his age but he hasn’t. Skating ability is usually the first to go.

Every year he’s gotten more aggressive, more physical than the previous year, and his ability to really control play has improved drastically. I mean he was good for 1-2 bad giveaways every game and I literally haven’t seen that from him for the last 50 or so games. He wins faceoffs, he’s a dog in puck battles, and he can score, make plays, and now it seems that he’s really taking pride in tidying up his defensive game and it’s paying dividends early so far.

He’s like a Brendan Morrison on steroids out there, the glue guy of the top 6.
