Player Discussion JT Miller Thread

Can't argue with any of this. It's obvious they had enough money to sign either Miller or Horvat, not both.....so they decided to go with a soon-to-be 30 player on an eight year deal. Why?

I still think the owner had something to do with it. I suppose there's still a chance they could trade Miller instead of Horvat, but they'd have to keep throwing draft picks on to the pile for any team to take on that contract. The whole thing was baffling,. really.

I suspect that the owner influenced Canuck management to sign this contract. The reason being is that Jim Rutherford has been in the hockey business for close to 50 years. He has a proven track record of success. With that said, it seems really odd to me that Rutherford, on his own, would sign JT Miller to such a risky, ill-advised contract. It seems plausible, if not likely that the owner Aquilani, who, unlike Rutherford, is not as much a hockey expert, would interfere and nudge the management group to sign this win-now type contract.

Just a hunch I have

There is no question about it, It was a massive mistake signing Miller to that ridiculous extension. Move him before his new deal kicks in for whatever you can get. This has all the makings of a complete dumpster fire. It's only going to get worse as each years passes.
If we are trading Bo,we better move Miller also,,I don't want this guy taking over as our number 1 center or even wearing a "c" on his jersey.

We are on the countdown phase waiting for Francesco to realize he isn’t good at this and find someone else he can buy to provide him a quality product. Like how he failed at building a restaurant group so he bought one.

Idk, Boeser makes as much or almost as much as Bo should make, I don't really understand the Miller vs Bo line of reasoning. Couldn't it also be Boeser, or Mikheyev/Pearson or Garland/Pearson if we move off the free agent signing benchmark?

I wish we traded both and would still trade both.

Miller was supposed to be our 1. / 2. C

Boeser, Mikeheyev, Pearson and Garland are not centers.

seems to me like he’s going about this hockey owning thing in the opposite way. he bought a successful team from some guys who delivered a quality product then turned around and said, hey i got this

but maybe there will come a time when the franchise is such a distressed asset, at least in terms of community interest, that he will get bored and cash in his $700 million or whatever and turn his attention to his fabergé egg collection.

I'm disgusted that he has an "A" whereas Schenn doesn't. Remember when we reacquired Linden and he didn't have a letter on his jersey because Bertuzzi had one instead? Ah memories...

What a leaderless team. You think the captain took JTM9 aside and took a strip off him for what he did to a 3rd string goalie?

No
f***ing
Chance.

Tbf, he signed Jack Johnson to a 5 year deal and traded for Erik Gudbranson

I'm always going to push back on the Gudbranson trade a bit because Pearson was putrid for them and Gudbranson only played 26 regular season games for them before everyone realized he was fraud and shipped him out.

Watching Miller's 'no show' in tonight's game just reiterates the obvious. In the words of Brian Burke, what kind of drug-induced fantasy was the Canuck brain-trust in when they decided to sign this guy to eight year extension?

The inevitability is another crippling buy-out somewhere down the road and long before his contract expires. In fact buy-outs for OEL and Boeser aren't out of the question either.

It's not even a matter of debate......the Canucks have the worst payroll in hockey.

I watched the Winnipeg game and saw the stick tap to get Delia off the ice but I only now watched a replay of the entire thing and heard the Bruce interview where he is saying he signalled Delia to stay in net.

Miller is an absolute disaster of a extension. Holy f***...

No one’s mentioned it but Canucks.com posted a video of Miller and Myers going to visit the hospital for kids. It was completely awkward and you can tell right off the bat that Miller has some character issues.

Are you being facetious?

I came here to make a post about how the last game was probably JT's worst, but trash like this just makes you want to defend the guy. Lets keep it somewhat on the ice.

What kind of BS is this? Umm... ya the car ride was awkward as they were both trying to crack jokes. Have you seen the ones with Myers and Schenn? They are dry and you would think the two have better chemistry.

But what character issues did you see? I don't know what you saw, but I saw Miller try to entertain the kid(s) he was with which is what matters.

As a Canuck JT has been a consistent offensive producer at a high level, with much of his production being clutch or when others weren't doing much. This was really obvious last year when Petey was not himself. This year....he's lackadaisical on OFFENSE too. He always slacked off on D, but he often outproduced his mistakes...now he doesn't do that either.

I personally wanted him traded in the off season just due to how much his contract would be and his age. I certainly didn't think he was going to repeat 99 points....but I never thought he would regress this hard after getting paid. How has there been no accountability for him acting like this?
