Player Discussion JT Miller Thread

As a Canuck JT has been a consistent offensive producer at a high level, with much of his production being clutch or when others weren't doing much. This was really obvious last year when Petey was not himself. This year....he's lackadaisical on OFFENSE too. He always slacked off on D, but he often outproduced his mistakes...now he doesn't do that either.

I personally wanted him traded in the off season just due to how much his contract would be and his age. I certainly didn't think he was going to repeat 99 points....but I never thought he would regress this hard after getting paid. How has there been no accountability for him acting like this?
Because Bruce there it is.

Slamming his stick at hughes like a bitch

Who the f*** wants to be around someone like that?
It's completely ridiculous that people will defend this piece of shit and say "oh that happens in every game."

To say this is normal behavior in hockey is bs. Maybe in your beer league hockey where there's always that one coked up prick that just tries to show off and acts all arrogant. Kids that showed this type of shit in juniors were outed and benched.

Or maybe the same cast of people grew up watching 70s hockey where a career goon and lose cannon would be praised for having "heart."

I've seen a lot of people in the past say that Kesler did similar things. He absolutely did. He was also a dick to the media and wouldn't answer for what he did. The difference was he NEVER slacked off or was a liability like Miller is. If you are setting a good example for work ethic then you get some leeway to be frustrated at those that slack off. If you glide back after giving the other team a 2 on 1, you don't get to criticize anyone ever.

If one would criticize Kesler, it would be he *NEVER* paced himself even during the 'home stretch of the season' when playoffs were already a certainty. eg., it seemed he didn't have enough gas at times in the post-season.

He also would dive in front of shots...in games we were leading ...when we already clinched a playoff spot. He never knew to turn it off. Was never healthy enough by the playoffs either.

A former prospect described it best: "Wasn't a guy you wanted to have dinner with, but a guy you really wanted on your team."

He did have a questionable moment fighting Willie Mitchell in practice but both quickly reconciled and made a joke of it.

JT Miller is a total joke.

I came here to make a post about how the last game was probably JT's worst, but trash like this just makes you want to defend the guy. Lets keep it somewhat on the ice.

This is exactly how Canuck fans are . They jump the ship so easily no matter what . Gullible fans quickly come to defend him. Attitude on the ice is usually off the ice too

These athletes are suppose to do charity things, it’s in their contract. People already forget that three years ago there was a individual that didn’t and immediately got traded. The organization itself said that if you don’t work with the community that you don’t belong in the team. The whole video you can tell by his attitude and body language that he doesn’t want to be there . The only time he cracks a smile is when it’s all done and he’s ready to go home.

Videos with character guys like Kesler, Bieksa, Luongo, Twins, Horvat and Petey, even Boeser going to hospital and you can actually see that they genuinely care . Miller on the other hand… it’s a complete different attitude. he even took a picture of himself in the video and showed it to his wife, “ look I’m doing this “ . You know they edit all the footage right ? And that’s the best they can come out with. Even Myers looked more engaged and more like a leader than him

Sometimes you look at a guy like Jarome Iginla. This guy always has a smile on his face that sometimes it doesn’t seem real but hey at least he puts in the effort. There’s a reason why he’s one of the better leaders in nhl history

This for the most part, except he isn't far off point wise, but isn't driving play like I thought he would.

I do think a lot is being taken over the top. He has always made a lot of these mistakes and errors, there was some posts on twitter last night, showing some of his mistakes, and some were not his fault, or really even the bad ones. Like he has made a lot of mistakes we all know that, but at least point out the correct bad ones.

If you produce at a 100 point clip people are going to cut a player a lot of slack when it comes to defensive game and overall attitude. It's when the player stops producing at that level that we all go "oh yeah, this guy's always been a complete lazy asshole who might be destroying the internal vibes".

I agree with your sentiment, I just also think he should always have been looked at as a ppg player.

Has anyone been able to figure out how retention would work in a theoretical Miller deal, specifically about whether your retention % would be the same for the end of the current contract and then carry over to the extension or not?

From earlier posts it would be on his current deal.

From wording I believe you could do his new deal if specified, but it has to be same % for length of entire deal.

It's such a unique situation when you're thinking about trying to dump a guy who is currently on a good contract but about to be on a bad contract in 6 months lol.

I don't think his contract is really that bad if you think he is a ppg player. I mean that in terms of the teams that should have wanted miller last year should actually like his current contract. It is not an overpay, is not maxed on years. You have to expect he will fall off in a few years.

To me if a team wanted miller to trade and sign with them last year, this contract shouldn't detract them. Maybe other things will be the contract shouldn't.

This reminds me of kind of a funny story from when I was much younger and in a pretty competitive hockey camp. At the end of it, we were split up into two teams for a game, which was a big deal for us since we had not gotten to do that during about a week's long camp up to that point. A couple names after I have heard which team I'm on I hear that the best player at this camp is also going to be on my team. This guy wasn't really friends with anybody during that week, but rather kind of a dick to everybody. When I heard that we were going to be on the same team I let out a little bit of an audible "yes!" This prick pipes up "what did you say?!", to which I replied to by stammering out something about being happy that I was on his team because I really wanted to win that game.

Link to the video segment from HNIC.

As usual, Bieksa with good insight. Personally, I don’t like the optics of yelling and smashing a stick at a third string goalie. But I get Bieksa’s point. But rightly points out that Miller needs to back it up, and his effort is indefensible.
