HuGo will benefit a lot from the good youth they inherited from Bergevin and Timmins. I already see what guys like you will say, it will be that these young players ended up good because of how great the "development" under HuGo is compared to the Bergevin era. Obviously, this will be false. I gave the draft comparison between 2008-2011 and 2018-2021. Again, it's night and day, and HuGo will look great mainly because of that, also, if they don't mess up the first overall pick this year and the three other first round picks they have this year and next year..
2012-2017 development was pretty good indication of what would happen if they stayed on board. 3 of the 2nd rounders MB blew from 12/13 drafts were acquired by Gauthier. Now HuGo already added more picks than him in just a few months. Heck Caufield was looking pretty awful until HuGo came onboard.

2012-2021 that MB passed over is significantly worse than what he inherited from 02-11 drafts. Not even close. There's no argument behind it, especially considering the fact he had two top 3 picks and another top 10 pick.

Hopefully Roy can be as impactful as 2010 pick Gallagher.

That's often listed as a risk of bringing guys up early, they can play a specialty, PP, offense, defense, goon, whatever, but they don't get a chance to learn more. Roy could probably play as a sheltered pp/offense guy pretty soon, maybe, but it's going to take a while before he is a complete player. Wright is similar to Bergeron, he's well rounded and he's a higher pick, the team will take care of him, Roy has more to work out and is a lower pick.

I think this is a good opportunity for the organization to develop a prospect properly, and have ex-agent Hughes explain that it's not a negative on the player. Roy should definitely play junior and the team should give him a list of stuff to work on.
Bergeron also had the benefit of playing his age 19 year in AHL.

Reported by who? Was it credible?

Reason I ask is because we have a history here of trashing guys on the way out. I’m at the point now where I don’t take it at face value anymore.

Hopefully that’s another thing we see change under new Mgmt.

Its impossible to show that a guy's development was hurt by staying too long in junior, or was rushed to the NHL. Only way of figuring it out is to use common sense , look at what has been happening and have a big picture.

Case in point, Galchenyuk. No 200 foot game was the common complaint about Chucky. So if it was a complaint 5 years after he was drafted, it sure as heck was an issue in his year 1 with the team. So why was a guy, with such a bad defensive game, who was supposed to be our franchise centre kept with the team and played on the wing under a Coach who clearly stated it was not his job to develop players ? Horrible development and incompetence. Chucky should have been returned to junior.

Contrast with Suzuki. In D+1 he goes back to junior as he is told by Vegas to work on his defensive game. He does. In D+2 the Habs send him back to junior and tell him to work on responding quicker, in other words pick up his pace. He does.

Common sense tells me that the problems lay in rushing a kid because the pro game is so fast and the room for mistakes is much smaller than in junior or other lower levels. A guy liek Suzuki is so talented he can put up great production in junior but still work on other aspects of his game. You cant work on other aspects of your game in the NHL.

So Roy, yes, should be looking at him going back to junior next year as I am sure he has aspects of his game to work on..

Good to get an actual prospect in the lineup. Laval are heavily being carried by vet skaters. No offense to Martel, Dea, Belpedio, and others; they're not going to be NHLers.

But right now in the conference final, expect Laval to use Martel, Dea, and Belpedio before they use Kidney and Roy.

At forward, they still have DSP, Kevin Roy, Justin Ducharme, JC Beaudin, and Cam Hillis among others.

I'd absolutely love to see Kidney and Roy get in the line-up. But I'm not expecting them to play. I think they're there more to be around the team and pick up on tips and tricks on what it takes to be a pro.

Although if I had to pick one to play before the other, I think Roy would get in the line-up first.

That's mostly irrelevant to the question the OP asked. As for Roy, he could easily be a specialist as well, not all specialists are grinders.

But the main point is that we do have to consider how getting sent down will impact Roy, assuming at training camp he's showing he belongs. Not only can it be difficult mentally (Especially when my merits you earned it), but there's the risk of basically wasting the year not really learning anything because you rely on junior level plays that won't work in the pros. Drouin is an example, of how going back when you are already dominant might not really help, and arguably just reinforces non-pro habits making them harder to break/change.

Players need to be challenged to continue to develop, and it kinda looks like the Q doesn't really challenge Roy sufficiently. If he's not good enough for the NHL, then maybe a year in Europe would be the best route. Though I'm also partial to off the board ideas like Roy going back to the Q with the understanding that he'll be used as a Defenceman, as that would provide a challenge and plenty of learning opportunities.
Hughes will definitely have to explain it to Roy. This is all assuming that he comes out and scores lots of points at dev camp. He may well get bounced around and not score a whole lot at a higher level. Even if he does it's up to the habs to convince him that he's great, he has a great future, but everyone will be better off if he works on his game in junior.

He will probably only get a shot if the Rocket falls behind and are facing elimination.
He will play before that, i'm sure the other players will be okay with that, the team before individual, if they think they can win with Roy or Kidney, they will play.

i dont find Riley physically ready yet but i would give Roy some games i think hes ready for the AHL
100%. Kidney was sent back to junior right after the rookie camp while Roy was invited and looked good at the main camp.

But right now in the conference final, expect Laval to use Martel, Dea, and Belpedio before they use Kidney and Roy.

Roy will get in the line up. He is better than any current reserves and he is offensively gifted. I think he will do well at this level.
