That's exactly my point, Brassard doesn't need to play for the entire season & I doubt anyone thinks he will. He also doesn't need to play against the other team's best players all the time although in the short term I don't see it as a problem since he has been playing against them his whole career. He just has to hold the fort for as long as he can & when it is shown he needs a rest they can move the chess pieces around until he is rested & ready to play again.Maybe, they've played what, 2.5 games together so far including the pre-season? We'll see how Brassard holds up once he's out there against teams like the Leafs, Tampa and Florida. I'm sure he can hold it down for a few weeks. But for an entire season? I'm skeptical.
It's easy to see a scenario where Pinto gets moved up to the 2nd line, and if that happens, Brassard isn't a good fit for the bottom 6 and we'd probably want to upgrade on Gambrell if we want to stay in the playoff race.
We also have 76 games left. Chances are, we'll lose another C at some point, so the team has to plan with that in mind. If we're ever in a situation where 3/4 of our centers are Brassard, Kastelic and Gambrell, even for a short stretch, that's not great.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with their training. Just a couple of freak coincidental occurrences. Norris was the fittest guy on the teamwtf is up with our players and shoulder injuries...
Might want to reassess our strength programming or something.
This really sucks.

He is 35 yrs old afterall & a temporary placeholder, luckily Ott has depth at centre this yr. Gambrell, Motte, Giroux, Joseph & Kelly have all played centre at one point or another & this is not including the centres they have in Belleville. Hopefully, it doesn't become an injury epidemic like last yr.
They are all placeholders who have played centre that could replace someone temporarily with Brassard being the best of them. I expect that if Brassard doesn't work out they could go looking to boost that spot at some point, but I expect they will try a number of different things first. It all depends if they can continue to win consistently with him in their lineup whether they start looking to replace him or not.Gambrell sucks.
Motte, Joseph and Kelly are not NHL centers.
There's no one in Belleville ready to come up.
Giroux can move, but I fully expect us to add someone to the mix.
Pretty sure motte is a centerGambrell sucks.

Giroux can move, but I fully expect us to add someone to the mix. It's only been 6 games but there's a lot of momentum for this team, already. Dorion has cap room, budget, and lots of assets. He's not going to sit on his hands after the offseason he just had. He's always been one of the most active GMs in the league, and I doubt that changes.
Pretty sure motte is a center
Tkachuk-Stutzle-BathersonCrushing news.
I have no doubt Pinto can fill that role perfectly. Really hoping Formenton isn't guilty, would salvage our forward groups big time.

Still very strong, imo.
He's a winger, hence why he's playing wing here like he did in New York and Vancouver. He's taken just 152 faceoffs in the last 5 years.
We might get off lucky with this one. It's a HUGE hit, but at the same time, we can plug Pinto or Giroux in there, so it's not quite as big as it could have been had we not acquired Giroux and Debrincat.Typical Senators luck... Big blow to our lineup and chances for the playoffs...
Dorion signed Gambrell and Brassard over the summer as backups in case of injuries. Those two players will fill the center role during Norris's downtime.Gambrell sucks.

Man....
f*** Jonathan Toews.
He is scum.
I will not judge Jonathan Toews, we can't wash away everything good he has done in his life. Toews has always faced the music. It's not my job to judge him anyway, who am I to judge him anyway? Can We Please Appreciate This Version of Jonathan Toews? - Bleacher Nation

I don’t think it’s wise to acquire anyone until there is clarity on Norris. If he looks like he will be back for the playoffs then try internal replacements,Naming a replacement center is the easy part. Indicating who you would move to get the trade done is the hard part.
Would a "find a guy at all/any cost" be the right move? That would be the obvious question that needs to be asked.
Taking it a step further in this direction, is Toews a better option than giving Pinto more time as a 2C and filling in from within?
