Toews has a full NMC. I don't see it happening.

If Sens are still in the race and Washington falls out, maybe go for Dylan Strome as a rental. His history with Cat is there.

I think Toews could be convinced.

• Ottawa looks like a very good young team, solid chance at the playoffs
• On other teams, he'd be acquired to play a "depth/veteran" role, and a move would have to wait until the deadline because of his cap hit. With the Norris injury, he could play with DeBrincat/Giroux, put up some numbers, and get himself another decent contract next year
• He may be interested in playing in Canada for at least a little while at the end of his career

Point 2 would probably be most compelling to him and his agent.

With Norris on LTIR, he could be a fit, I don't think CHI will be in a rush to move him though so we won't likely get him cheap, at least not yet.

If we do pick him up, Norris could potentially pull a Kucherov and suit up for the playoffs to evade cap issues.

Davidson has been pretty upfront that he's going to let Toews dictate what happens, so it'd really be up to him. My bet is there'll be a pretty regular dialogue between Toews and Chicago's agent about possibilities, so Ottawa could raise their hand and see if it's an option.

I also don't think Chicago would mind moving him out early so they can shift their focus to the Kane situation towards the deadline. That's where they'll have a shot at getting some real good pieces. Plus, they want as high a pick as they can get in the draft...

In terms of price? It won't be nothing, but since he can decide where he goes, I don't think it'd be a ton. Definitely less than what Giroux went for last year.

Nope. His badly handled rape issue in Chicago would be a perfect storm for Ottawa media with Formenton and Batherson still potentially on the hook for the Team Canada thing. It could create a huge distraction about the judgement of ownership, the GM, rape culture, accountability, etc..

I just don't want to make a panic move.

We have depth in Brassard/Gambrell and we may have an option from Belleville in Greig. The longer we wait, the better we understand the need and the lower the cap hit.

If we beat the Wild and have some success on the road then we don't have the urgency others expect which also helps bargaining position.

At this point I think we need to see things play out before pulling the trigger unless a complete no-brainer option is out there.

With Norris on LTIR, we're probably one of the very few teams who could take on Toews' full 10.5 mil cap hit (salary is 6.9 mil). Other teams will need to pay for retention.

Toews salary is actually only $2.9M for the year. $4M was a signing bonus that would have already been paid out. Very budget friendly.

And you're right, many other teams could have to involve a 3rd party for additional retention, even at the deadline, which wouldn't be something we have to do.

Sad news for a young up and coming team that could make some noise this season. Luckily you have loads of assets to find a replacement.

Terrible to lose Norris for the season likely...no panic moves but let's see how we progress over the next 15 games.

I totally forgot to mention G as part of depth for C position as well. He can slide over there if we are going to add a different winger and that opens up a lot more options from the farm as replacements.

 Neither do us Coyotes fans.

Someone mentioned Bjugstad but he is not much help. Travis Boyd makes some sense. Cheap, would not cost too much to aquire. Hayton would be the best "potential" to replace some of Norris' production but the Coyotes cant really afford to trade him.

Is it not odd that he got a non-contact injury that isn't a re-occurence of the previous one?
Well, tough to know. He may have torn his rotator cuff the first time. And this could be a separated shoulder, or dislocation (shoulder popping out), so not entirely sure

Not odd at all.

If he separated/dislocated his shoulder, and it pops out again, it could lead to any number of complications.

Likely the same type of injury with a different complication associated with it, whether that be ligament damage, avulsion fracture, nerve damage, torn muscles, etc. who knows
