Norris' lack of assists concern me slightly, but that might be due to Batherson being out

I wouldn't worry too much about it. He has 8 assists in 46 games at ES compared to 10 in 56 games last season. The difference this year being he only has 2 on the PP compared to 8 last year. Likely a result of the puck going in at such a high rate this season. In a normal season the goal total comes down a bit and he gets more assists. I'm hopeful the ES scoring takes a bit of a jump moving forward to go along with him being such a threat on the PP. He is 105 games into his career so plenty of reason to expect a bump in ES production.

I'm not cherry picking stats though. I brought up Brady's points and Norris goals. If those stats paint one side as better maybe that has something to do with their actual performance?

Chabot is 25 and plays a different position while Brady and Josh are similar age and even play on the same line and same situations. To compare their performance and contract is natural.

Doesn't losing Norris also invalidate what they are building? Because he is our 1st line center right now, our best two way forward, and arguably our best power play weapon. What are we doing if we lose Norris?

And yea Senators will use Batherson contract but Norris agent will probably just call Drake's agent a dumbass. We got lucky Drake signed his contract before Brady. Can you imagine Drake negotiating his contract right now?

So let me get this straight our cap structure is that our potential 4th/5th best player on the roster is the cap ceiling for the rest of our talent? Like everyone else is gonna outperform Brady on the ice but will be happy to make less because he's the captain and his last name is Tkachuk? I don't think it works like that either.

The only "argument" you have brought forth is scoring "pace". Pace, in trying to justify why a player deserves a specific contract number, get real here.

Very small sample size, and although I am very very high on Norris and always have been, I am not going to blindly assume he deserves $8 million a year because he has been on a hot scoring pace. He will still have to prove it consistently to be able to demand the big bucks.

He will still get paid, but using just goals and points in comparison to Brady is a waste of time. We all know why Brady got what he got and I am not going to re-hash it in this thread again.

Guy is now shooting at over 22%. Pierre please don’t screw yourself and sign him to a bridge if he’s asking for an 8x8

don't know what Dorion was thinking on holding off on contract talks with this guy after Brady was done. Likely could have got Norris at that time around 7X6.5-7.0 now we are looking at something over 8m....

30g for Norris and I think its safe to say he'll be our powerplay beast as long as he's a Senator. Unless DJ starts playing him less, Norris is going to score more and earn himself a payday!

I'm fine with a deal similar to Suzuki. 8 years at $7.6 million?

It's hard to find a comparable on the team for Norris. He's not as good as Batherson in my opinion, but probably a better player than Brady. I'd say 6-7 is fair.

We're really putting all of our chips on these guys getting better, though. There's a world where we spend near the cap with this core and all we're left with is a bubble team. I do hope we continue to see an evolution in his game after he's signed a big contract.

You can point to the hold-out being a reason for it, but I don't think Brady has looked like a first line, 8 million player this year. I've said it before - it's not just about spending the money, it's about spending it on the right guys.

Yeah drake. Drake comes in under 5 tho. I was only counting the big contracts.

I’m guessing pinto will come at 4. Formenton 4. Batherson 5. Zub 5. 18.

I’m at 54 million. Giroux at 6.5 but he will be retired by the time they’re all making that money.

These are our guys, for better or worse. Unfortunately rebuilds dont always give a team a Crosby or Malkin type.

It would have been nice to have drafted a McDavid but I don't want to extend the suck for years on end to get a player like that. Of course, the Oilers show that drafting a couple of elite talents doesn't guarantee a winner either.

Our top end guys appear to be a step below that but I think there's legit contender if the next group of young players become strong depth guys.

I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that we’ve been mediocre for so long without any 30 goal scorers.

I don’t really care how many assists he gets.

We need guys who score.

He's also a good all around player too. Let's not forget that our first line is basically guys just starting out and playing the oppositions top players and they are competitive.

Norris plays vs the top centres and doesn't get caved in. I know people look at the assists but there's more to him than just scoring...his total game stands up.

I just think the Batherson and Tkachuk contracts kind of screw us in terms of negotiations. Tkachuk is overpaid by a bit, Batherson is underpaid by a bit, and then Norris will have to get paid big because of those contracts, even though he is not necessarily better or worse, just different.

Batherson should be making 6.5, so he is underpaid by about a million and a half. Tkachuk is overpaid by about 1 million, and he should be in around 7.5 instead of 8.

Which means Norris in a perfect world would probably net about 7 million long term, but now I am concerned he will demand close to 8.

Batherson must feel like crap if he ends up outscoring both Tkachuk and Norris next season while making almost 3 million dollars less per year. Hoping that does not cause any locker room issues.
