For my sanity I have to believe that that guy was just trolling. And if he is he's doing a pretty good job lol. That's a historically bad take
He definitely wasn't trolling. Look at other Rags related threads. It's astonishing. They get proven wrong over and over and it doesn't appear to shake their confidence in their horrific opinions that they state as facts. Just today one was talking about Zibanejad being an elite #1C in another thread.

Gaudreau and Tkachuk still not signed. If we lose Gaudreau or both we are basically in rebuild without any extra top draft picks and no UFA replacing gaudreau available. On the other hand Gaudreau is 28 and this team had no success with him as a leader at all. No playoffs series win in 6 years.

There is no way they are negotiating contracts right now. So there is nothing to really discuss

With the flat cap he might come in around 8.5 9 mil over 7. Philly is a likely destination but I can see him resigning or getting over bid

Zero chance he goes to Philly. If he moves on from Calgary it will be for a contender, not for a team that's not close. Calgary is a top 10 team. Philly is bottom 10. Johnny will go to a top 5 team or stay in Calgary.

He is going to re-sign with the flames around 9.5 for 8 years.

Guy is the real deal and has a legit shot at breaking some all time records with the flames.

I am worried about Chucky's long term commitment though.

Tkachuk is a guy I'd trade. Good player, but he's a mercenary.

I dunno. IMO Tkachuk wants to be the centre of attention somewhat on a team. He wouldn't be happy being in a secondary role. Calgary is the perfect role for him. He doesn't have to be the guy, with Gaudreau here, but he also gets the perfect opportunity to be front and centre. Tkachuk also has a massive personality, that is going to clash with a lot of other players. Gaudreau is very easy going, but Tkachuk might get on the nerves of many other star forwards. It sounds like there were already major issues between Tkachuk and some of the vets who got moved out.

I'd be happy if Calgary signed both and kept building on what they have. IMO Calgary's goalie and defensive situation is way too set up to do a rebuild. The Flames finally have a legit #1 goalie, and Andersson, Hanifin, and Kylington are a solid d-core in themselves for the next 5 years. Calgary should just throw dumptrucks of money at Tkachuk and Gaudreau and hope for the best.

You never know what's going on behind the scenes though. For example, Gaudreau's wife may have already decided that his family is leaving Calgary. That stuff is pretty outside of the organization's control.

7 years is a long time and lots of things can change.

He's going to chase the money closer to home. I'd be stunned if he re-signs in Calgary. Philly and NJ are right in his backyard and have tons of cap space to get it done.

I mean, what top 5 team could afford him? Not saying it's gonna be Philly but wouldn't seem crazy to join a team that can pay him big and appears to be on the upswing. Doubt Stevie Y would do it but that's one spot

I wonder how him and Hamilton got along. I think the flames re-sign him but if he walks I would like the look of the Devils with him on the wing. They can afford him and seem to be going for it with signing Hamilton.

I think he ends up staying in Calgary, 68-72M over 8 years assuming his strong season continues

I would not resign Malkin 35 and sign Johnny Hockey 28. Malkin is at $9.5 when he leaves take $ 8 million of that and sign Gaidreau,,,5 years @ $8 million $40 million and takes him age 33/34.. We still save $1,5 million a year.

Johnny will require maximum term. 5 years is laughable.

Philly has no cap space currently.

Hard to blame Gaudreau for Calgary’s failures. Have they ever even had a Top 10 roster while he has been there?

I don't think he's signing for 8M/yr if you look at any recent comparables

They were 2nd in the league like 4 years ago. And you most definitely can blame Gaudreau, his last few playoff appearances have been atrocious.

With that said, Gaudreau is playing the best hockey of his life. He has committed 100% to what Darryl Sutter is selling. Guy backchecks relentlessly and is the highest +/- in the league, his line almost never gets scored on. Took like 20 games before someone scored on their line and it was because of a turnover from the 3rd D pairing.

Contract year sure, but him and Tkachuk have amazing chemistry and Lindholm is the center that holds them all together. I am 99% confident Chucky and Gaudreau will get identical 8 year contracts this off season.

Flyers will go 7 years at 9 million because that would be a stupid move.

I would be content with that contract from the Flames... I don't think people realize how good this guy actually is?! Honestly, he does it all. He's relentless on pucks defensively, and one of the most intelligent players offensively. On pace for 100+ points.

Pretty crazy that there's an actual chance that he could become a Devil.

If that happens I'm pretty sure I'll end up getting banned for profanity laced celebration posts.
