Philly has no cap space currently.
The Giroux situation will clear up. depending on what happens there could be enough space for gudreau so long as he's at less than ten.

If it is a preferred destination as has been rumoured for years I wouldn't be surprised to see a Hayes situation in order to transfer that 8th year

That explains why he is trying to jump the shark right now. Look for a steep reversion back to the middle for Gnomey next year

I wonder how him and Hamilton got along. I think the flames re-sign him but if he walks I would like the look of the Devils with him on the wing. They can afford him and seem to be going for it with signing Hamilton.
Hamilton was traded partly because he wasn't jiving with the rest of the Flames socially. I wouldn't count on Hamilton's personal relationships luring Gaudreau in.

Hard to blame Gaudreau for Calgary’s failures. Have they ever even had a Top 10 roster while he has been there?
Yes.... Right now.

In 2018/19 they flames had a very solid roster too. One of the best second lines in the league. One of the deepest defences, that included a Norris winner. Five 70+ point players and another seven 30+ point players.

The only whole that year was James Neal, who the organization had brought in to be a top line RW, but was trash. The team was first in the Western conference.

I love Gaudreau. AS a devil fan I was looking forward to his UFA and knowing he is from the area. But currently, as good as he is, our team is filled with those style of players but of lower calibre. Now if we can trade some of those players and get some snipers then I can see us signing him.

If i'm GM BT, I am doing my absolute best to sign both Tkachuk and Gaudreau long-term. They are among the absolute best in the league for a top line and every team needs that to be successful. Tkachuk is just entering his absolute peak period of play and Gaudreau has at least 4 more amazing years ahead of him. Calgary needs to buck up and pay their best players or they will remain a middling team forever. I'm glad that I am not the GM, as it is a super tricky cap situation at the moment, but it is very clear Treliving needs to bite bullets to make the right moves or he is beyond fired for mismanagement. Realistically, the Flames need to be willing to pay $18-20M for both those players, then think about how they can possibly accomodate players with raises incoming such as Kyllington and Mangiapane. I don't care if they have to trade guys like Monahan, Lucic or Backlund for considerably less value coming back. The cap space is the main culprit and those players are all replaceable - whether with big tough-playing possession guys that Sutter likes or the stellar kids from the AHL. I don't know, i'm not a pro at hockey management but I feel like these things need to get done.

Philly shouldn't even be entertaining the thought of signing him...which of course means we will

And Mike Smith as the goalie

the team also choked badly in the second half

lol I was hoping for 8.5 to 9M at the beginning of the season. It's at least 9.75M now and that's if Gaudreau's willing to be nice. His comparables are Marner (10.9M) and Panarin (11.6M). Realistically, take Panarin's total salary and divide by 8 which is around 10.2M.

78M in a flat cap? I doubt that, 68-72M is still probably realistic. They'll just have most of his money come in after the escrow goes back down

8.5-9 would make me very happy! I think you're correct with his market comparables and I'd be happy if he signed for 9.5-10.

We are seeing teams lock up their stars for big money. We have a player that's on pace to put up 100+ points. Has already put up 99 points not too long ago, and does nothing but drive offence and plays very well defensively. Lock him up!

8 x 10.5.

Gaudreau's got a winning mentality. If Philly and NJ weren't dumpster fires, I'd be more worried of them swooping in.
