Gaudreau is going to turn 23 years old on August 13th and had 78 points last season good enough for 6th place (tied with 2 other players) in only his second full season in the NHL. Gaudreau gonna get better then he is now.

The Flames ain't trading Johnny Hockey anytime soon!

If Brad Treliving ever traded Gaudreau the Flames fans would probably have Treliving hanged, drawn and quartered in the town square.

how does people not signing mean they are going to be traded? Gaudreau, Matthews, Huberdeau, etc are staying with their team even if they miss a few regular season games. It's not like these extended negotiations are a new phenomenon.

How does creating a speculation thread mean we think a player is going to be traded?

Oh yea, it doesn't. I'd bet good money that Gaudreau is not traded, but it's not an impossibility and I think his value is worth discussing.

Gaudreau is Paul Kariya light.
BTW, Kariya's best season was as a 21 year old.

Honestly, Monahan is to Calgary as McDavid is to Edm. And Gaudreau = Hall...one dimensional, winger, expendable if it betters your team.
And without cost certainty his trade value is low - which is the reason why Tyson Barrie hasnt been dealt.

Yea....no.

Gaudreau is more valuable to the Flames then Monahan.

Then I guess you're also taking Alex Delvecchio over Gordie Howe lol

Given Delveccio never outscored Howe, and as far as I know wasn't substantially more talented, I'm not sure where you're pulling that from, but I can guess.

Anyone who thinks Gaudreau is one dimensional is either a complete moron or doesn't watch flames games. He plays a complete 200 ft game and is one of the best at defensive zone take-aways.

Doesn't make sense for the leafs.

Though he's what they hope marner becomes, he would cost more than him.

The Leafs would be doing celebratory backflips if they had the opportunity to make a deal for JG. He would instantly be the best player on the Leafs with the highest upside. Marner isn't even in the same galaxy as him.

Do you think it's possible you might not be the most objective person on this subject?

Same kind of value as Tarasenko IMO. He's like a tiny Mcdavid. Would take all day over Monahan, position, size and all.

This thread is so unnecessary... Gaudreau might want to go to Philly in free agency, which is at least a couple of years away, if he's dead set on it. He's not going to be traded now, so looking at potential deals involving other teams' players/prospects now doesn't make sense.

All that said, as a Flames fan I think Hall for Gaudreau would be hilarious.

He might be the best player on the roster but his ceiling being higher than Matthews' is debatable.

Think we have Gaudreaus rights for 5 more seasons. No way we trade him. We just need one good playoff run, there's no way he leaves a city where a street fills up for 4 kilometres with crazy hooligans wearing red, and hot women wearing... Minimal.

Lol how is Gaudreau a franchise player but Hall isn't.

Sorry, but neither Gaudreau or Hall are franchise players

So a second year player who finishes 6th in league scoring isn't a franchise player? He had a 4th line winger to play with and a borderline 1st line center. Put him with elite players and he'd win the art ross.

He's very good on the backcheck and positionally. He struggles a bit on the wall getting pucks out like all smaller players do. He's kind of like RNH. Smart and in the right spots with the right effort. Just gets overpowered at times. That said, he's above average defensively.

Ask Chicago if they keep Kane over Toews. Or Mtl for Gallagher over Galchenyuk, Boston for Seguin over Lucic, etc etc.
NHL is a size driven league.
It's also a league with position heirarchy - Defence first, then centre, goal and wingers last.

I like Gaudreau, he's a nifty player. But let's not get carried away.

I'd take Gaudreau over Monahan, easily. I like Monahan, but he doesn't really produce well without Gaudreau. A majority of Flame fans believe that Bennett will be the #1 center eventually anyways.

I'd also be willing to bet Chicago fans would take Kane over Toews. Seguin vs Lucic really isn't a fair comparison either, Seguin is by far the better player, and what's ironic is that Boston chose to let Seguin go.

No, it isn't. I'd put money on Matthews' ceiling being much higher than Gaudreau's.

Can you please specify what each player's ceiling is in your opinion? In terms of point production especially.
