There's only a handful of players I'd take over Gaudreau throughout the whole NHL. Would a base of Marner, unprotected 2017 1st +++ work as a potential deal?

If Calgary really was forced to move Gaudreau then yes, something could be worked out.

Calgary isnt looking to tradea him and there is no real evidence that he wants to leave Calgary any time soon.

Johhny hockey is imo maybe the top 5 most exciting players in the NHL, this is coming from a canucks fan.

If he leaves calgary, I will be extremely disappointed to not be able to watch him play on a regular basis, but at the same time thrilled because the pacific just like 5x easier.

Johhny hockey is a god damn superstar, anything less than multiple picks + two top prospects, would be a disaster for calgary.

Great rebuttal's by MajorHappy, the same guy who changed his name to make him look like an Oilers fan for a while as an attempt to troll. What's wrong with him being called one dimensional? He's elite in one dimension, offence. He doesn't hit (he's too small), he doesn't PK, he doesn't block shots, his 2 way game is average at best and likely will stay that way, yet again because he is small. Just let it go, there's nothing wrong with a player being one dimensional when that dimension is the hardest thing to be good at in hockey.

Seems like there are some people who feel that Gaudreau may not want to stay long term in Calgary. He's made comments on multiple occasions about how he'd one day like to play closer to home. Then Roger Millions made some interesting comments in a AMA.

Obviously I take this all with a grain of salt, and everything is in all likelihood fine, but it's a bit weird that it sounds like they still haven't really figured out the basics of the deal. In the unlikely case where Gaudreau doesn't want to sign long term, what does Calgary do? Try and bridge him? Or would there be any thought to trade him while his value is high? If so, what could he return?

You're a devils fan?
Gaudreau for Greene ;)

1) Devils trade Hall for Gaudreau
2) HFBoards explodes.

In all seriousness though, I'd be surprised to see him moved. He's more or less the face of Flames and anything short of a dramatic overpayment would prevent him being moved.

Basically it would be give the Flames a list of your roster and your prospects list and let the Flames pick what they want, that's the only way that they move JG.

Okay, I guess Buffalo wouldn't mind tossing Eichel and O'Rielly. Or Ottawa tossing Karlsson+. Or Toronto tossing Matthews + Marner + Nylander. Or Habs tossing Price (good lord)+. See how ridiculous that sounds?

Gaudreau is amazing, but my lord this kind of post doesn't do him any favors. He's not Sidney Crosby 06-07 or Malkin 11-12 that will take nearly half the roster/whole prospect pool.

Wait you don't think something like Schenn + Sanheim is fair value of Gaudreau?

The individual players on the flyers, or prospects that I wouldn't trade for Johnny Gaudreau

Giroux, Simmonds, Couturier, Gostisbehere, Provorov, Sanheim, Konecny and Lyon.

It would be crazy for Calgary to trade Gaudreau at this point in time of his career.

This is remarkably similar to my thoughts about the Sedins for the last decade...

how does people not signing mean they are going to be traded? Gaudreau, Matthews, Huberdeau, etc are staying with their team even if they miss a few regular season games. It's not like these extended negotiations are a new phenomenon.
