It's a big if but if he did want to go to Philly it's hard to see something that works... Would have to be Provorov + Simmonds maybe? Hard to put value on a guy like Johnny. Philly fans probably lose their minds at that proposal.

Ya think?

The difference between Simmonds and Gaudreau is not the best or 2nd best D prospect in the world.

Johnny hockey is nasty... but good lord, that's over rating him. Hall straight across is closer.

Not really. Gaudreau has outscored Hall by 40 points in the two years they've been in the league together.

They're close in value, but JG is the better player.

He's also played 24 more games than Hall, which you failed to mention. While I think JG is better, you're overstating how significant the margin is between the two.

Gaudreau was also a rookie the first year. Last season was the first season they both played close to a full season. Gaudreau scored at a 16 point higher pace.

Lol how is Gaudreau a franchise player but Hall isn't.

Sorry, but neither Gaudreau or Hall are franchise players

Different levels imo... Gaudreau has been far more consistent than Hall and other than people (Keith) trying to chop his hands off has been very durable to this point. A lot of it comes from their type of game but Gaudreau is the definition of a driver of a line and creates so much offense.

IF he were to be traded (big if) it would take a rediculous overpayment which fit Calgary's needs.

Simmonds+Provorov for JG fits both bills.

Again not going to happen but it's what it would take.

This is one of those cases where the eye test is more meaningful than the stats. The eye test of Oilers fans, that is:

Gaudreau >> Hall and it's not even close.

[Gaudreau] really is a much better hockey player. Pathetic really.

He is better than Hall. 2 far superior seasons in a row. Far more skilled.

Yep. As a guy who has been Hall's biggest fan and even at times an apologist,

...

Gaudreau is a far better winger at this point than Hall.

You are ignoring that trading for Simminds and Provy would take an overpayment.

The 15-20 point difference between Simmonds and JG, along with Simmonds physical play, is not Provorov. Keep dreaming. The difference betwen the 2 is not a possible #1 dman.

Yeah, I'd agree. Personally, I'd prefer Schenn over Simmonds.

The return for Gaudreau would be two really good pieces. Like the Carter and Richards trades.

Richards for Simmonds and Schenn

Carter for Vorachek and Couturier

That's generally what a young superstar goes for. (Unless it's the Oilers, then a young superstar goes for just one really good piece)

Except that at the time of those deals, none of Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek or Couts(was a pick) had broken out.

Simmonds was a 30-40 point guy...and not expected to be much more than the 40 pts
Schenn was a good prospect
Voracek was a 50 point Winger

Plus, LA was in need of a big move to try and push for a cup. Philly is not in that position at all. Still a few years away from needing yo make this kind of move.

AND the flyers biggest issue is fixing the defense. Trading away top D prospects for an extra 15-20 points from a winger is a dumb move for Philly.

Sorry.

Schenn was one of the most highly touted prospects in the world at that time.

Apology accepted.

I'm not talking about these specific trade proposals. What I am saying is when a young star gets traded, the package is usually 2 really nice pieces.

Flyers wait til he's UFA and get him for free

That will be a minimum of 5 years, but probably longer.

The Flames will never agree to a deal that takes him to his first year of UFA availability. It will either be a short term bridge deal that takes him to RFA again, or 5 years plus.

Schenn, Provorov and a 1st and flames bite IMO

Only if they are looking to move him. Don't get me wrong, it's a fair deal. I just believe the Flames have every intention of keeping Johnny as long as possible and building around him and the rest of our young core, but if it looks like he's only going to stay out West for the bare minimum he possibly can, then they may decide to just nip it in the bud.

Millions also said that Colborne would go to arbitration after the Flames had already not qualified him.

There's only a handful of players I'd take over Gaudreau throughout the whole NHL. Would a base of Marner, unprotected 2017 1st +++ work as a potential deal?
