I mean they only had 140ish points last year. Pretty much every team has 20 and 21 year olds that are one of the highest scoring duos in the league.

I don't know about going that far, maybe Leafs fans/management would view him as the face of their franchise and superstar player?

But yeah, I agree with you about it being simple. Monahan-Gaudreau are one of the best young duos in the NHL.

I think Flames management vs Gadreau representation is the big battle here.

Flames probably want Gadreau at MacKinnon money.

Gadreau representation could want Tarasenko+ money OR a contract that takes him to UFA status the quickest.

I'm a Flames fan, but Matthews is already better than Monahan in everything but natural experience-related details. I would trade Monahan+2017 first+2017 second for Matthews in a split second.

I know Monahan and Gaudreau together have way more value than Matthews but the leafs would likely lose one of Nylander, Marner, Gaudreau and Monahan because of the price they'd all want.

I'd rather Matthews, Marner and Nylander rather than any 3 of Marner, Nylander, Gaudreau and Monahan.

Saying that Matthews will definitely be a PPG player is a stretch. I think he'll be a 65-75 point player for most of his career, with upside to 80-85 points.

Gaudreau is already a 2 way PPG player.
