I hate Puljujarvi but he's a far more effective NHLer over Edmundson at this point
Change of scenery might do him some good. Habs adding another big winger must be kind of tempting with a group of smaller Cs. He's a bit of a gamble but still untapped potential there for the right coach.

One must agree....while Ed is an upgrade it does little to move Edmonton into seroius contender .
Literally not even our number one goalie right now. Skinner is and his numbers are great but thanks for coming out. Edmundson doesn't move the needle for any playoff team unless they wanna throw away picks or prospects for a guy that'll ultimately disappoint come may.

At this moment in time Eddy at least a serviceable player. You can't say that about Puljujarvi.
Hell Eddy as a D-man has as many goals and Puljujarvi's -12 is ........
I guess he would be serviceable if your goal is to fail for the best draft pick possible.

There’s absolutely no denying that he’s been getting caved and he’s bleeding chances against. Let’s call a spade a spade here, he’s been brutal.

Bottom pairing defenseman.
When did K. Hughes say Edmundson was available Montreal don't need to trade him this season if a team wants to trade for him that's fine but a deal isn't likely to happen unless K. Hughes gets what he's asking for in return.

😀 I don't have a dog in this fight, heck I hope Oil can fleece the Habs in this somehow. I was just curious how the fans of the parties involved saw this playing out.

Habs will take back a contract if we have to but Puljujarvi is not one we are after. We have a bunch of forwards coming in our pipeline and need to make room, not clutter it more.

Eddy for a one year cap dump and futures. If Puljujarvi is the one year cap dumb, OK but we want futures. If Puljujarvi is being included for value, we are out. It doesn't line up with our point of trading Eddy to begin with.

"Eddy" has been playing like Ryan Murray this year. It's like he thinks he's already been traded and passing to the other team at a level I've never seen before.

He missed the whole camp and he's back from another significant injury to his back but honestly he has been struggling real bad since the start of the season

Maybe he'd be better under a new role elsewhere but if I'm a GM I'm not giving up a 1st for him

You're actually right he has been the worst ive ever seen him . Maybe he can get back to form. That said getting him while he's all banged up and stinky would be such a holland move :naughty::naughty:

I doubt you watched him that much to know anything of value to this discussion. Eddy belongs with a puck mover and not with a rookie (if you want the best results). He's clearly not the type to mentor a rookie. He is the physical mobile type that is effective in the playoffs and needs his partner to help him move the puck.

It don't matter in the end. You clearly don't want to trade for him so I'm not forcing it. However, I will defend against garbage exaggeration in attempts at devaluing our asset (sorry). Saying Puljujarvi is more effective than Edmundson is comical. Yeah, someone who has struggled with McDavid as his center and is now on the 3rd line is worth just as much as a top 4 min eater. Cool story bro

Show me anywhere in this thread where I’ve said anything regarding a Puljujarvi. I know he’s been shit this year and there’s no denying it. I guess I could try and spin it by saying he’s responsible defensively and has strong underlying number and blah, blah, blah but the truth is he’s not bringing near enough for his cap hit and he’s had plenty of opportunity to do so.

Edmundson is in the exact same boat, he’s a defensive defenseman who’s been getting destroyed defensively and has been a net negative for his team who has a sizeable cap hit for this year and next at a time when cap space is extremely valuable. There’s a good chance he can turn his game around but right now that’s a huge risk at his cap hit and it not being an expiring contract.

I actually do want him to become an Oiler because I'm 100% positive I could score a game worn jersey through a family connection but his play has been atrocious. Not worth it

He's #4 for average ice time on the Habs, doesn't play an overly physical game anymore, but you're correct- if he tries to clear the puck out of his own zone; he's probably putting it right on the tape of the opposition.

He's a 20 min guy no doubt but whoever trades for him, needs to have the right partner. I have my doubts we get a 1st rounder to be honest. Only way I see that is last min at the deadline and Habs retain 50% for the rest of this season and next. If no retention, it might be a 2nd rounder and B+ prospect. He's going to return more than Kulak.

GMs very rarely say that their players are available publicly. That would be very unprofessional.

That being said, I agree. I don't see a team offering the kind of value that would make it worthwhile to part with a veteran D like Edmundson.

With Bettman today saying next year's cap will increase only $1m, Montreal will probably need to retain salary to move him, regardless of the eventual return.

The cap news isn't just a bad thing for MTL/Edmundson, but the deadline market entire.

He's valuable in terms of experience, plays both sides, and his a big mobile/physical type but lets face it, he's not trending as well as Chiarot did without Weber last season.

Habs are likely to keep Edmundson. We could try the 50% retention to get the best futures we can get and that should get some bites but maybe it's 2nd rounders and B+ prospects instead of a 1st.

Oilers have several holes to fill and it is not probable they use a 1st rounder on Eddy. They will look for a bigger fish and maybe circle to Eddy if he is still available at last moment. Kind of like Kulak for a 2nd last deadline... it happened late
I suspect that Kulak is a better D.
He is our #5D, and shouldnt be played higher.
Oilers need a #2-3D
1Ds never gets traded. They get draftes or FA signed.

I think the Habs lack the personnel to help fix Edm defense.

That said Edmunson for a 3rd to shore up the 3rd pair....sure.
