Let's see what he's got left I guess
No risk with that contract
He's got a two month head start on the youngens.

A league minimum contract is a bad thing? He's not being signed to be the 1st line C. It's called depth. Now tell me, is depth a bad thing? Some fans share different philosophies on how the team we cheer for should be built.
Can you see Texas from up there?
I pretty much agree. Thats what Id like on the third line too, but id rather hold onto kerfoot, hope he has a bounce back year, and move him next offseason when hopefully theres more of a market for guys like him. And other than Cirelli, dont see anyone available that I would say is definitely better than Kerfoot right now.Well even still, neither Kerfoot or Spezza were better than Kadri.
Im not a big Kefoot fan, getting a late pick and signing a better defensive centre on the PK, better on faceoffs while bringing 30-40 points would be an upgrade on Kerfoot on the short term.
Really, who?
I was coming to say the same thang sire. All these old guy signings remind me of the 2004 Leafs. So many big names. The big difference between that team and this team though is that the 2004 Leafs were a very old team overall and needed the old guys to be a big part of the team.
The 2021 Leafs main core is just hitting their primes and all these old guys are just there as role players coming in at basically the league minimum. I like it a lot. If it doesn't work out then you just cut them loose at that salary. There's absolutely no downside to this.
I can't believe I'm reading this.
Anyway, I hope Leaf Fans temper their expectations. So many think that Jimmy Vesey is on the verge of carrying this team on his back. Can you imagine what type of statue they are going to be carving for Joe.?!
If our youngsters can't beat these guys out.....then why complain? Obviously not ready.Just a question to all you cheerleaders out there... Didn't we go through a rebuild so we could avoid the embarrassment of having veteran players from Toronto come here for their swansong?
I agree with the Spezza move, I don't mind the Simmonds move, or the even the Brodie move but this? How can we hope to afford Mikheyev and Dermott after this move? I would personally rather watch us sink or swim with players we drafted and developed, not over the hill veterans hoping for an Indian Summer.
Let me go through hf and I'll do a tally for you.
very interesting thoughtI'm thinking that Marner left 700K too much on the table
Such a new poster with so many hot takes already.....congrats ..Jesus, I didn't know Thornton's contract had zero impact on the cap. My apologies.
Do you think move reflects some concern with Kerfoot at 3C?
How much more leadership do they need? They already had Spezza, Tavares, Muzzin and Rielly. Not to mention, Joe's leadership abilities were criticised in Boston (he was young) and San Jose (stripped of the C). To add to that, people have questioned his heart his whole career.Shouldn’t it really solidify that the leafs recognise they need leadership in the room?
and that at $700,000 who really gives a f***?
Jesus.

This has nothing to do with "how the team is being built." Jesus.
Keep proving my point though.

I just don’t think talent has ever been an issue - leadership has. Maybe they are over doing it this off season but I sure as hell don’t hate it.How much more leadership do they need? Don't get me wrong, I like this signing because the guy is a big body that can still play at an okay level. And it's a zero-risk deal, given the term. I just think this whole leadership thing is being overblown
Well I hope he has something left in the tank, I’m not really excited about this move. That said, it’s not a core piece or big ticket, so the sky isn’t falling.Eh. I doubt it. I think Kerfoot had an up and down season, but of anybody on the team that did, he has a real excuse (played through a broken face). Looked excellent for the most part in the playoffs in the 3C role.
I could see Jumbo taking over the 3C role at times though if we think we need to move Kerfoot's cap, potential injuries, and also if Keefe wants to put Kerfoot on the wing in the top-6 at times.
Thornton still is a serviceable 3C, so I wouldn't be too mad about it.
