Confirmed with Link: Joe Thornton to Leafs [1yr/700k]

I wonder what sounds better. Thornton for $700k or playing guys like Par Lindholm and Nick Shore.

Some people can't wrap their heads around the fact that Thornton isn't a superstar anymore but is still a good, serviceable player.

Remember the speed on Lindholm and Shore? Blazing am I right?

This move 100% closed our window shut, there's no coming back from 1x700k. We're probably gonna have to pay someone just to dump Mikheyev and Dermott now.
Hahahaha! Well played.

Oh my....I....don't understand that post - at all. Like it makes zero sense. I would stay quiet before looking that......well.....

God I need to get off here before I lose all hope for intelligent life forms.

This signing speaks volumes to how badly Keefe and Dubas think our locker room, and specifically our younger players, need an outspoken veteran voice to call them out for lack of give a crap.
I agree. I think this is largely to help shift the team culture. It will ko longer be Mitch and Austin's team. They'll have some serious hockey leadership to answer to.
We'll see how this goes.......

All these old guy signings remind me of the 2004 Leafs. So many big names. The big difference between that team and this team though is that the 2004 Leafs were a very old team overall and needed the old guys to be a big part of the team.

The 2021 Leafs main core is just hitting their primes and all these old guys are just there as role players coming in at basically the league minimum. I like it a lot. If it doesn't work out then you just cut them loose at that salary. There's absolutely no downside to this.

Clearly the leafs want to sell more merchandise. You can get a Thornton sweater, a Spezza sweater, a Simmonds sweater, Nieuwendyk, Nolan, Lindros, maybe we can get Gretzky for a game or two.

They tried to sign him at the same time as Marleau IIRC. Better late than never! As it was with Spezza, it will be interesting to see him don the blue and white of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jesus, I didn't know Thornton's contract had zero impact on the cap. My apologies.
It only impacts if he's on the team. And it doesn't take away from anyone else. It's literally the cheapest you could possibly sign a player for.

So yes, zero cap impact.

I can't believe I'm reading this.

Anyway, I hope Leaf Fans temper their expectations. So many think that Jimmy Vesey is on the verge of carrying this team on his back. Can you imagine what type of statue they are going to be carving for Joe.?!
