Just a question to all you cheerleaders out there... Didn't we go through a rebuild so we could avoid the embarrassment of having veteran players from Toronto come here for their swansong?

I agree with the Spezza move, I don't mind the Simmonds move, or the even the Brodie move but this? How can we hope to afford Mikheyev and Dermott after this move? I would personally rather watch us sink or swim with players we drafted and developed, not over the hill veterans hoping for an Indian Summer.

no faith in Barbanov? Boyd or Anderson may make a case too.......gotta be a trade coming

We have so many NHL guys it's impossible to say who's going to be playing lmao. The only bottom-6 guys I'm relatively sure will play basically all 82 games are Vesey & Kerfoot.

Every single GM in the league would have inked Thornton to this contract....guaranteed. I don't care how old or slow he is; this is a fabulous signing for that cap hit. Now let's start the 10 pages of grasping for reasons why Dubas is an idiot.
Already started. Apparently according to some, this league minimum contract means that Dubas needs to be fired.

I wish intelligence was mandatory....he either plays well or gets waived.

No, the point of the rebuild was not to ensure that we never see Thornton play for the Leafs. What an unbelievably stupid question

This move 100% closed our window shut, there's no coming back from 1x700k. We're probably gonna have to pay someone just to dump Mikheyev and Dermott now.

He isn’t even 50 percent on draws anymore. I worry people are expecting something that doesn't exist anymore.

yo not going to lie, your logic is so backwards i started laughing. You do realize you can put thornton in the AHL if its THAT bad right without an impact to cap? You think you know more than pridham? the guy that LITERALLY helped write the CBA? Get a grip man.

A veteran literally cannot cost less on the cap than what Thornton just signed for.

It has absolutely 0 effect on our cap.

Except Spezza wasnt brought in to replace Kadri.

Hard to see how the Leafs come out better. Kerfoot has no value right now, so you're not getting anything interesting back. Would depend on what they do with the cap space, but still doubt they'll come out a much better team.

Well even still, neither Kerfoot or Spezza were better than Kadri.

Im not a big Kefoot fan, getting a late pick and signing a better defensive centre on the PK, better on faceoffs while bringing 30-40 points would be an upgrade on Kerfoot on the short term.

To be honest I’m also hoping for a corey perry signing lol
No one would have complained if marleau signed this contract instead of his 3 year deal right?
Harmless, can def help young kids grow up
Dubas is learning

still hoping on Sam Bennett, corey perry
Hamonic
Cheaper goalie?

Someone must have baited him with the chunk of beard he lost. I bet you it is locked away somewhere for Joe to come to TO to get it back. I wonder if the beard he lost is darker than what he has now.

The same way we hoped to afford them with Boyd as our 13th forward... Instead now it is Thornton making literally the same amount.
