I think he will be a great mentor for Matthews.

Former #1 overall pick who plays the same position and also a bigger player that became more physical and mean over time.

He should still be able to be a effective 4th liner and bring leadership and toughness to our lineup.

I like this signing more than the Simmonds signing.

FYI. 41 yr old Thornton had more points than 26 yr old Kerfoot last season. I was able to catch a bunch of Sharks games last season and Thornton can still play.

I don't have any expectations here, seems a bit redundant with Spezza already here. Maybe the plan is to rotate Thornton/Spezza on the 4th line.

If anything it's another voice in the room to keep some of these young guys in check.

Between this, Brodie, and Vesey I'm getting a lot of players I'm on a roll this offseason.

Locker room presence is the big win here. Joe will command respect as soon as he walks through the door and if he notices any of the kids dragging their feet or looking disinterested he will call them out for it. There will be no nights off for anybody next year.
