How much more leadership do they need? They already had Spezza, Tavares, Muzzin and Rielly. Not to mention, Joe's leadership abilities were criticised in Boston (he was young) and San Jose (stripped of the C). To add to that, people have questioned his heart his whole career.

Don't get me wrong, I like this signing because the guy is a big body that can still play at an okay level. And it's a zero-risk deal, given the term. I just think this whole leadership thing is being overblown

I think all these veteran moves really call into question the leadership of Tavares.

If Marleau made 700k I doubt anyone would have much negative to say about him.

i've always liked Joe but these signings look more and more of just trying to sell false hope to Leaf nation due to Kyle Potter boy wizard blow his cap wad on three 11m dollar players

Looks like they're more established aging players rather than the normal reclamation pool we usually fish in. Instead of Mike Santorelli, PA Parentau, Tyler Ennis, Dan Winnik, it's Thornton and Spezza, Simmonds to a lesser extent.

All cheap contracts. I'll be disappointed if we're hoping for old Jumbo (he's not that anymore), but we're not paying him to be either. Fine as a bottom line C to play with Spezza, Engvall. Maybe even rotate in/out depending on the other options.

Age could be a bigger factor than usual for him/Spezza, this'll be a long layoff for some old bodies.
