Imagine what? Throwing a rookie into basically playoff games and thinking he will save us ?
Always a little surprised at just how much stock some fans put into totally unproven prospects. Opinions based more on hope and wishes. Hopefully, he will progress through the Moose to the Jets and earn a spot in the next year or two or three, along with Heinola and Chisholm. Gotta earn it first.

Approx 76 posts behind the loss to the Oilers, in the same time span......and that game ended around midnight, lol!

I guess misery really does love company.

Are you saying we should find things to whine about :P

I wasn't able to watch this one. I don't know how the PP looked in general, but gotta say I liked that goal.

Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Ended up with some great last minute tickets in Sec 112 just below the netting, so was an unobstructed view at a price that was too good to be true!

A few observations from my perspective:

- "2nd" line looked so good on a number of shifts...too bad none of the 3 could handle the puck worth a darn last night.

- Eakin will be fine. Having a chance to isolate on him a number of times, he is a real smart hockey player almost always on the right side of the puck. PoMo will have a lot of trust in him going forward. He's not as fast as he used to be though. (Did he not win or come close to winning the fastest skater time vs the Moose guys in their skills competition as a Bantam player?) I would be happy to have him in the fold at the right price.

- Sign Demelo please

- 26 and 55...I just shake my head sometimes. I know PoMo was raving about 55's D zone play last night, likely because there was no raving about his play in the O zone! The two of them were a black hole in the O zone. (Aside from Wheel's sweet feed to KFC)

- Man is Harkins a great fore checker. I don't know how many times he forced plays down low where it looked like there were none. I will live with a few of his mistakes. Kind of reminds me of the way Matchoo used to play when he first got here. A bigger/stronger version mind you. That line was relentless on some of the shifts, good game for them.

- The more I watch Pionk play... I honestly think we win the trade for Trouba straight up, never mind adding in Heinola. He has such a feel for the game...he has a ton more hockey sense than Jacob.

- Appleton is a keeper.

- I do not see what Bourque brings to the team...has to be good in the room I guess.

Pionks for Trouba straight up would have been a fair trade in hindsight now, the bonus and what makes the Jets the winners in the trade is obviously Heinola!

really don’t know what Rangers fans were yammering on about with Poink, guy would be welcome on any team in the NHL!

I agree about the rookie part but Samberg wouldn't have to be great to be a improvement on BooBoo . But we played good last night and for the last few games so i'm not gonna complain .

Bourque , Shore out Frenchie and Lowry in and that's gonna be our best lineup of the season .

Perhaps it’s you guys projecting from others that he’s going to “save the Jets”. Is anyone really saying that? The rational take is that he comes in and perhaps provides an upgrade in talent on the bottom pairing right away. This is a 21 year old currently playing in his draft +3 year, not some 18 year old still eligible to play junior. Samberg is already a better player than half the guys they throw in the bottom pair.

I agree that if he isn’t up here and playing before the playoffs, he won’t see the ice. Maurice just doesn’t operate that way.

I was responding to the post that said " imagine" that insinuates that samburg will come in play in the top 4 where the post said he would and do amazing.

Which wont happen

Agreed. And Imagine if we can sign Samberg and have him slot in late in the regular season:

Morrissey Demelo
Samberg Pionk
Kulikov Poolman

Amazing? Where does it say that? So the poster has him paired with Pionk, might not be that crazy tbh considering the dreck we throw out there.

We do know that NCAA players who spend more than a single season, have a history of being more NHL ready than counterparts in other minor leagues.

You look at the players we have signed out of college, Copp was NHL ready very quickly, Tanev as well. Poolman could have been a full time NHL dman in his first season with us, but spent a couple of seasons on the Moose due to injuries and his 2 way contract.

And while Connor and Roslovic needed a season in the A, both spent a single season in the NCAA and were fairly developed when they arrived.

Samberg has 3 full NCAA seasons under his belt, playing big minutes. He plays a smart defensive style that translates to the NHL. He also has NHL size already.

While it is ambitious to assume he will be able to walk in to camp next season and take hold of a 2nd paring D spot, I do believe its realistic that he could grab that spot by the end of next season.

Just a note that it's pretty rare a coach will throw in a newly signed rookie into meaningful games. There's a mentality that you should stick with the guys that got you there. Doubt we see Samberg in the lineup unless we're officially in or out of the playoffs with games remaining.

Connor keeps growing as a player. He just may end up being the guy who scores in and around 40 a season for a decade or more and ends up being one of those guys with 500+ goal numbers when all is said and done on his career. I'm really liking his game and the fact we have him for 7 years at a very reasonable number.
He’s having a heck of a season. He’s also getting better all over the ice.

Poolman stayed in college too long after starting college late, guy is finally playing hi s first full NHL season and will be what 28? in the off season.

Samberg talk is premature but you never know as we saw with Trouba, I would also assume Samberg will be more polished than Trouba coming to the Jets!

Both Niku and Poolman were slated for greatness here by some but as we’ve seen they both have THEIR limitations!

I liked Eakin's game centering the 2nd -

He doesn't appear to be very interested in scoring goals and really doesn't have to with these two wingers.

He spends most of his time chasing down puck carriers and cutting off passing routes. Has a really sneaky stick that he uses really well when defending and stripping pucks - and he uses those short little outlet passes to get things moving in the other direction.
There's nothing flashy about him and unless you're paying attention, you can miss what he's doing out there -

The 2nd line was dangerous tonight and he had a lot to do with it - in a sneaky way.
Anyone else seeing this?
I saw the same thing. Unselfish player who works really hard all the time. I hope he can help elevate that second line.

Niku yes, Poolman no.

I think most saw him as a 3rd paring Dman on a regular D rotation. Many felt he would be ready to step in quicker because he was older, had spent 3 seasons in the NCAA.

Had Poolman started sooner, he just would have spent ages 23 - 25 in the AHL, till he was ready.

I thought more of all the Poolman talk in the past when I hear about Samberg. It's eerily familiar.

Different pedigrees

One guy played at the highest levels early in his career. World Junior Championship. Top 50 draft pick. Not a gamble. A known commodity
One guy was drafted late ie he was a 20 year old drafted player. Never played at the highest levels in his age group. Spend a long time developing at a lower league level then turned pro really late in age.

Saying that. What we are getting out of Poolman for who he was and when we got him is pretty damm good. Comparing the two is not ideal. Samberg is complete player at his age already. A tremendous skater and passer of the puck. Poised etc...Poolman was still raw at the same age. It shows in his game now.

To even put him in the top 4 is thinking he will play amazing right off the hop. Especially while we wre fighting for playoffs.

A good win. Jets seem to have found their game lately. If I see Wheeler pass from between the hashmarks again I'm going to pull my hair out.

 WTF was he thinking?

And speaking of WTF moments, Scheifele should have taken the EN G. I know he was trying to set up KC for the hat-trick but it was still possible for Sabres to tie that game. Unlikely, yes extremely. But possible.
