If Niku couldn't slot in this year on the Jets, don't expect him to slot in anytime soon next season with Samberg, Heinola, a hopefully signed De Melo and maybe a UFA D man!

He’s been hurt most of the year. Not sure what happens to him but he’s missed a big development opportunity this year because of the constant injury issues.

Unproven non-NHLer preordained to become an impact NHL defeneseman with the Jets immediately. That was the "Poolman hype".

I don't remember that Poolman hype. He was being somewhat anxiously anticipated, partly because he took so long to come here. He was a defensive Dman, which many people thought we needed. I hoped he would be better defensively than Myers - on the 3rd pair. I also hoped that we would trade Myers for more than he was worth after Poolman made him expendable. Still believe it should have been done that way.

But Poolman was on the 3rd pair in my fantasy world. Nothing Earth shattering. My hopes for Samberg are much higher based on better performance at the same age. When Poolman was the age Samberg is now, he was just starting his first NCAA season.

We obviously have different hockey paradigms. In mine, the AHL is the second best hockey league in the world.

I think that used to be true. It hasn't been for a long time.

I remember a time when players were considered long-shots to ever make the NHL because they were developed in the NCAA. I remember hearing that said about Red Berenson specifically on HNIC. In those days, you didn't need to be a very good 17-18 YO player in Canada to get a full scholarship in the US. That still applied 10-15 years later. Things have changed.

Just look at other Jets players who have gone to NCAA. Trouba, no AHL. Connor, needed 3/4 of an AHL season to mature, not to develop his skills. Copp needed no AHL. Poolman got 60 AHL games and could have played in the NHL a season earlier if there had been an opening on the Jets. He played AHL as a development alternative to sitting in the PB with the Jets.

That's the nature of professional sports, timing is everything. Still find it troubling Niku couldn't make it onto the lineup when he was healthy and Sbisisa, Potato and the Dahlstorm all could, it's not just Maurice assessing player ability it's the whole staff and management, Wouldn't surprise me is NiKu got moved this offseason and at this point he's just a piece for a trade deal!

Yup. If he was ever going to make the Jets, this was the year. In fairness though, injuries may have played a part. I give him one more chance if we can't/don't trade him before next season.

But I also think that if we sign DeMelo he needs to make it on the left side. So far he has always played better on the right.

This was likely the make it or break it year for Niku with us and he just never got enough of an extended look to really refine his game. The injuries have been extremely unfortunate for him. There may not be room for him next year and I don’t think he’s taken that next step to earn our trust yet.

That's what I thought too...PA guy was new. (Moose guy I understand) I do prefer Richardson to him though.

On kind of the same note...what did people think of Begonia's anthems? I thought she was outstanding...maybe a bit slow, but nonetheless an amazing voice!
One of the best voices in the city IMO.

She is an upgrade on whomever has been singing the anthems, that's for sure. IMO of course.

They are doing it to Brady Skjei now that he's been traded. Trash player, worst D on the team, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Maybe we can trade Buff to the Rangers and get Skjei in return? :sarcasm:

EDIT: Never mind. Forgot he was already traded

Maybe if we can get a Time Machine?

You are putting words in peoples’ mouths at this point.

If samburg wasnt playing amazing why would he be in our top 4 while we push for playoffs? I'm not putting words into anyone's mouth. The fact that the post say he should be there in his first few games is ridiculous. He may never become a top 4 in general let alone right away

Sometimes borderline players miss out entirely on an NHL career because of bad timing. The injuries might be that thing for him.

He still might get a chance with another NHL team or he may soon be back in Europe having a very nice hockey career.

I thought she was just alright. I don't think anthems or that format really suit her. She fares better in more intimate settings with a sort of 'folksy-Adele' vibe. Anthems are more for belters. She can belt, but that's not her forte IMHO.

Your post makes some sense if there was a handful of games remaining but 14 games is a lifetime in the NHL.
There are 6 teams but only 2 spots. It will be tough. Many of those teams play each other down the road. If 90 points gets them in that means they need 8 more wins minimum in 14 games as I said possible but not an easy road to travel.

Goal horn doesn't sound different to me, but it was fun listening to the Buffalo guys screwing up everyones names

The goal horn sounded the same but there was some kind of deep bass thumping interfering with it at the arena. Possibly the beginning of the goal song was playing to soon?
