True enough, was more so speaking from a level of play standpoint. I think it is higher than the Dub but obviously lower than the AHL.
Anyhow he is in a situation where he can build some confidence. Hopefully he has a good summer of training and comes back ready for AHL hockey.
The same applies to Lambert.
I would have been fine with:
A) Chaz staying in College one more season because he needed it.
B) Chaz getting a taste of the AHL, playing a full world Junior, going to Portland for the second half of the season.
But not fine with C) a full season on the Moose.
Plan A would have been more structured with less games at a really appropriate level to challenge him. plan B is more dynamic with 3 teams. He gets a chance to play at the high level (AHL), then drop below college level to the CHL.
I do think the Portland chapter is very necessary so he can have a lengthy stretch of offensive dominance. One of the reasons is he lost significant time to injury in his draft season, and D+1 season. In Chaz’s draft season he only played 12 games for the US National Development team. That is 1/3 of the season and a huge blow to an 18 year olds development. The following season in Minnesota he only played 24 of 39 games and had his season cut short again (the injury also hampered his off season development). Even this season he only got in 12 games with the Moose.
There are 25 games left in Portland this season as well as the playoffs. Chaz really needs a 30 game run (including the 5 already played) to make up for lost development time. The more points the better.
His two impacted seasons when he was in draft and draft +1 are enough to permanently hamper some prospects. I think that is why a good stretch of games in needed for quantity, compounded by ideal offensive usage.
Like King and Mort I had started to discount him as an asset. Hopefully he build off that beautiful finish at the world Junior, have a strong run in Portland, and a heathy off season where he can train his ass off. We might just see a new player on the Moose next fall.
