There are criticisms that are legitimate and some that are not, the whole "he doesn't hit" is literally factually inaccurate, and anyone who brings it up should be dismissed immediately since it's not opinion based and can be easily fact checked.
Do you think any legitimate criticisms of Slafkovsky’s performances will be admitted or accepted as fact?

In his fourth year as an NHL player, many of the other excuses will have to fade away as well.
At 20 you don't need an excuse. This is a normal part of development. He's finding and developing his game. We've seen what he can do he just needs to be more consistent. That should come in time.

Based on research slapping a ceiling on Slafkovsky until he's reached 400 GP is futile. The guy is barely halfway there.
Most players break out around 23. This guy is about to turn 21. Still got a couple of years to go. I was hoping for more this season but at least he's found his game in the back half. If he plays this way all of next year I think we'd all be happy.

It’s also called over analyzing because people come in his thread analyzing every one of his shifts in details and what he did or didn’t do in every game even if he’s been playing great since the break.

They’re doing it with no other players.

I like Slaf, but his decision making with the puck tonight was sooo slow. He worked himself out of space multiple times by just taking forever to do anything with it.
I dont think we will ever get a huge point producer with Slaf. Probably gonna lose his PP spot to Demidov next year. I do also think he can be a huge playoff guy, let’s hope so. The game is less skills in the playoff and huge guys tends to do good.

I can't handle how he's positioned on the boards when we have puck possession. they need to change this problem. he needs to shift the front of the net and someone slide into his board position. it makes zero sense. he's the worst play maker on his line and needs to cause traffic and be a menace. he did for a couple games and went perimeter mode again for most the night.

Have to disagree about Slafkovsky not being a good playmaker. He's actually pretty good

nah. when him suzuki caufield and hutson are on the ice he's the weak link. his strength is his size and strength on the puck. he needs to be on the cycle or in front of the net. it's a waste having him on the boards because he has hard time opening up the ice for other players.

He needs to play with more assertiveness and authority. Guy is so frustrating to watch, always making the cute safe play by tossing it over to CC or Suzuki

For me that is my biggest gripe with him. Grab the bull by the horns and why don't YOU try creating something yourself. Drive the net, try to dangle 1v1.... I can live with mistakes but I wanna see that dog

He is back to his no feet moving, no hitting, lazy hockey.
He is taking himself out of a good position, usually in the corner or behind a player, rarely open for a pass.

someone compared him to armia when we drafted him, but he kind of reminds me of akost. all the tools but will he put it together?

Confidence seems low to be honest. Last year he was showing so much after new year.

agree, but i don't think he needs to be that super-brainy player to be effective. just forecheck like crazy, park your ass in front of the net on the PP, throw a few goods hits per game, bam.

I like the player, i think he has potential but he sticks out like a sore thumb in a bad way when we have the man advantage . Caufield, suzuki, hutson and even matheson move it around so quickly and are able to process the play at a high rate and slaf just can’t

That last sentence is just… not true at all.

They should be using him in the slot more, but not just for tips, screens and rebounds. he should be used as a bumper/screen to caufield and suzuki. Slafkovsky gains the position, gets the puck and makes a 3ft pass. That's how tight I'm talking.

It would great too if they set up an obvious one-timer to the left of the dot, and have slaf actually kick it backward to Suzuki who snipes from the centre-right of the high slot, and just parking himself where he is so defenders can't reach suzuki in time. But of course that's an ideal set play, where in general the key is shot generation. We need to maybe recall Mallioux and get some more point shots through, and encouraging shooting from dangerous angles to keep the goalie honest.

If they can focus on a)making the goalie move b)creating chaos in the offensive zone, the shots will lead to goals, even if the shots aren't the most dangerous. I think the habs need to keep working on deliberate deflection plays (like that recent newhook goal from Matheson), slap passes (especially to Caufield in tight), and intentionally shooting for rebounds. They want to rely on flashier passing plays, which I think they can totally pull off at a greater rate IF they get defenders moving. To me, the best way to do that is to make the goalie make saves, and get defenders scrambling.

This part is a bit more on the team. In general, they need to move him to the middle. He's a smart player, but he can overthink. I would say he's a good passer but not necessarily a playmaker. When he's at his best, he's bringing defenders to him and dishing it off. That's a big playmaking element, but it happens in the trenches, and it happens when he's moving his feet. So other than on the rush, he needs to be in the slot, and put in a position to make those quick decisions off of a broken play or rebound etc. Putting him on the wall is not using him where he'd be best. I think a big part of that is the lack of lefty forwards who are PP-worthy. Demidov should hopefully shift Slaf elsewhere on the PP (maybe PP2?)

It's painful at times.

Hopefully that part of his game can be improved in time..

The Haters will say that Second Half Slaf hasn’t impressed yet but to them I say that it’s only the First Half of the Second Half. If you cross your fingers and hope you’ll see Second Half Slaf methinks you’ll be pleasantly surprised...

Every good player has this pattern of performance so it’s perfectly normal actually. Only The Haters will notice something is wrong.

Wonder how many points he would have if he didn't play with Suzuki/Caufield.

At least he's been using his size a bit more during the 2nd half but yeah, still not a fan.

Slaf didn't play well in Calgary. Looked totally disinterested. Showed first few games after 4 nations he can play well when he wants to. Needs to be motivated
