"Batallion had the number one penalty kill in the league last year and are looking to restore that lofty perk this year... What makes them so good on the kill, Greg?"
And then DiVincentiis makes a big save on the PK

Hmm, I wonder
I wish the OHL had TOI stats, I swear Sam Sedley (#9 on Owen Sound) just had a 3-5 minute shift.

Yeah, if there were breaks between his shifts to close out the period they were very short. Junior hockey can be wild like that.

I remember watching a game where Morrissey probably played like 40 minutes.

Looking ahead, I wonder which Jets' prospects might play in the U-20 WJHC this year.

Locks: McGroarty (F, USA), Salomonsson (D, Sweden),
Solid bets: DiVincentiis (G, Canada), Barlow (F, Canada), Wagner (F, Sweden)
Long-shot: Brown (D, USA)

Am I missing anyone of note?

What could be so wrong with that guy that he was still available at pick #210?
It's weird logic. Seems that scouts look at Levis and think "yeah, he scored 67 points in 68 games, but his team was stacked", but in reality, he was buried and still produced. Then for Julien it seems to be "yeah, he didn't produce, but he was on a bad team" and that doesn't click for me because he was buried on that bad team and didn't produce. I know there are more things to consider than just points but if a forward produces that close to a point per game from the 2nd/3rd line they obviously have some offensive chops. He's not under sized, he skates well, has a high motor. Getting him in the 7th was a steal in my mind.

Owen Sound really not looking good.

They're pushing quite a bit in the 3rd now, DiVincentiis is keeping North Bay in it I think.

There's talk around OHL discussions that they think DiVincentiis could get traded at some point this season just because North Bay isn't in the best position to compete.

With how well he's playing this game I wonder how high in the standings he'll drag them.

Yeah they're pushing a bit now. Giving up the short-handed goal and almost giving up 3 more on the 5 minute powerplay was really ugly.

Barlow can really just shoot from any position, it's really impressive to watch.

Me too. I can’t imagine he’s too thrilled that he may be a backup for 6 years or so. He’ll be 27 when Helle’s contract expires if Helle isn’t traded by then.
If he keeps playing like this he’ll be ready sooner than later. It’s really quite impressive.

He just has to worry about getting good enough to be an NHL starter. He's likely 3 years away from a backup spot and a other couple from a starters. By then Helle is likely done as a high end starter and the job will be his for the taking.

Who better to learn from watching as a backup then a perennial Vezina calibre goalie drafted and developed by the organization.

I agree, and I don’t think DD is too worried about Helle being the undisputed #1 G on the Jets, for at least 4-5 yrs from now. By then, if he earns the top spot, it will be a 35+ yo Helle that might not get the playing time he wants. Hopefully by then they’ve one a cup or two. ;)

DD is 11 years younger than Hellebuyck, and although an extremely promising prospect wouldn't be the first one to stumble in between looking great in juniors to becoming a good NHL starter.

Even Dustin Wolf isn't looking to play in the NHL full time this season, whether as a backup, platoon role, or starter, and he's one of the best goalies to come out of the CHL in recent memory. And he's 3 years older than DD.

Best case scenario, DD forces their hand in 4-5 years after having dominated in the OHL, AHL, and in brief appearances in the NHL. And if he does, we'll just have to bite the bullet of having a goalie that looks so promising we have make a trade.

Yes no rush for DD, he can develop at an easy pace now. His trajectory is OHL>World Juniors>AHL Backup>AHL Shared starter>AHL Starter. Thats at least 4 years of very high end play and we will know for sure what we have by then. No need to worry about this position for a long time I think. Probably look at drafting a goalie every other year later in the rounds now and focus on other areas.
At worse you have 2 very solid AHLers with DD and Milic with potential NHL backup level skill so now we are looking solid there.

Probably need to focus on D prospects the next draft or 2

I'm always in favour of considering need at the draft. But I think Stanley was a result of going too hard for position over BPA. It takes a blend of the 2 POV.

I think Stanley was someone or multiple scouts were convinced he was going to be Chara/Buff like.

Or at least they hoped so. But at the time I remember thinking the vibe was that they wanted to go after a D man. Then after the better ones were gone they tried too hard to get the last best one available. I think it had been between the lines of the little that Jets say publicly.

DD is going to get all the time in the world to develop. Give him 2+ yrs with the Moose like he needs, then after that he will be the backup, and heir apparent to Bucky in net. All the development time, and an incredible mentor for an apprentice like him. I cant wait to see him dominate the OHL and he should absolutely be Canadas starting goalie at the World Juniors.

How is Dom not a lock? He won OHL top goalie, the WHL top goalie graduated, and so far he has been on fire. I can see Barlow making the team. He has captain qualities and is a sniper.
