So he's planning to come over for his 25 YO season? Probably already past his peak year. A couple of Russian players have succeeded that way but I think they are outliers. Maybe we see in a couple of years.

Yea I don't mind his route and respect the fact he will play in the KHL and get paid KHL money and "if" he can make the NHL great, if not then that's ok to but he has no interest in the AHL. That is not an uncommon position for Russian based players.

Rash was a 5th round overage pick which is a long shot slot and if we get lucky great.

Sure. His choices.

I read an article that indicated salaries in the K average $425K and are tax free. Stars get in the millions. Not too shabby. Not many of us would take $70K to ride the A bus with K money available.
Not just Russians, but very few Europeans would choose the AHL over playing professionally in Europe. The exceptions are those who committed early and played their junior hockey in NA.

Kuzmin wanted to get out of Belarus… Glad he will start making better coin other than his signing bonus and NHL development fee while playing in junior.

I think he has a shot after a 2-3 years of AHL development…

Also like Lundnark after 1 more AHL season … He should get a call up and peak this year at NHL

They also tend to come over if they can't make inroads in their Europe pro team like Chibrikov.

Chris Peters final comments from the WJSS :

Elias Salomonsson, D (Winnipeg Jets): Sweden’s blue line is truly one of its most critical pieces for its title contention. They have size, mobility and in the case of a few of them like Salomonsson, they can play heavy. The physical, aggressive defense he played throughout the Showcase gave all of us an idea of the kind of role he can play for Sweden. Salomonsson appeared in three of the four games and was always a factor when he was on the ice, particularly in his ability to defend.

Rutger McGroarty, LW (Winnipeg Jets): There's a very real chance McGroarty is this team's captain come December. A returnee with experience, aggressive play and improved skating, McGroarty is tapping into more and more of his game. He finished the event with five points in four games and always seemed to be around it. McGroarty is playing with a bit more jump in his stride and while it still isn't a strength, I don't think it's going to hold him back much at this level.

Don't know if it was mentioned but former Jets prospect Austin Wong signed with Kunlun Red Star of the KHL this year after finishing three years at Harvard University. Interesting enough, according to Linkedin he got his BA in economics and now works in corporate finance for an energy company out of Calgary.

Also fun fact - he will play with another former Jets prospect Zach Yuen in Kunlun.

The A has the Jets at #19 in their 2023 prospect pipeline rankings -- a drop of 3 from last year:

"Your 2023 Winnipeg Jerts Prospect Pool -- Fuelled by Average!!!"

The Jets organization has been stuck in the middle the last few years. Their roster has been good, not great, and as a result, they have acquired a lot of mid-first-round picks. Their system as a result is average. They have some very good players, but not high-echelon ones, and it’s mostly at the forward position.

Key addition: Colby Barlow

Key graduate: David Gustafsson

2022 ranking: No. 16

2023 NHL Draft grade: B-

I think Pronman is sleeping on Salomonsson, or more likely, just hasn't scouted him much because he's been playing in the SHL.

Apparently not impressed by Lambert.

Even a B- is above average so we should be higher than the mid point in the rankings. 19th out of 32 is more like a C-. So either the grade is wrong or the ranking is wrong.

Lack of top end talent is a valid criticism as is the weighting to forwards but I think we must rank higher than 19 on the strength of those forwards.

2023 draft grade and pipeline ranking are two different things.

Right, got it.

Still, an above avg grade on this year's draft should see us at least hold our own in the rankings, no?

Can't read the article, paywall. But I think our prospect pool is currently pretty good. Not great for the stated reasons but should rank higher than 19, just off the top of my head.

Not that the ranking is important. It is the results down the road that matter.

22 and under, so 2019-23 drafts counts. Not just prospects. We don't have a Jack Hughes or Tim Stutzle to compare atm.

I think the Jets have a few prospects with big questions, and the overall strength of their prospect pool will depend on how they pan out.

Lucius could be a high end forward, but his injuries make it hard to predict his trajectory. He seems like a real boom or bust. I'm optimistic, but there's a lot of risk there.

Similarly, Rashevsky and Chibrikov have high talent, but it's harder to predict their NHL potential coming from Russia.

I think Pronman missed the boat on Salomonsson. An 18 year old D isn't going to be flashy in the SHL, but I think he's higher end than Pronman thinks.

Finally, I think everyone is uncertain about Lambert's potential. He has a very high skill level, and showed well in the WHL. I think Pronman and others put too much emphasis on the WJC experience with the Finns. I think he had a very short leash with the coaches and was harshly assessed, there.

Agreed. I thought the ranking was fair. We have a good but not great prospect pool and lack that top tier level prospect(s).

If the ranking is 22 and under players, including those who have graduated we can add Perfetti to the list. He is not quite up there with the top tier. Not that far off though.

The actual number isn't as important to me as the range, since in reality it is pretty subjective with teams with similar level prospect pools. I think a ranging in the middle 3rd is fair. IMO the biggest Darkhorse for us is Salomonsson. He looks like he really might pop as a player based off last season. And as a big (6.2) smooth skating RHD this would be huge for our prospect pool. Him alone could bring us up close to the top 3rd of the rankings if he develops to his potential.

Some very positive scouting perspectives and tracking data for the Jets rangy RD prospect Garrett Brown. He's not produced much, but Mitch Brown thinks that's an anomaly based on his scouting and tracking data. He was invited to the US WJC-20 tryouts, so he must have some potential.

Soooo .... the James Wright of Dmen?
I hope it works out better for him than that. We could use a skilled 2 way RHD coming out of the 4th rd.
