Not sure if that link will work, but what are your thoughts on Hamhuis, Russell, or Quincey?

Hamhuis would be nice but he's getting up there and I highly doubt he'd sign here.

Russell is pretty much terrible, and bound to be overpaid, so no thank you.

Quincey I don't know all too much about, but I'd definitely prefer to get someone like Wiercioch, low cost, solid possession.

EDIT: Just so we're all on the same page regarding Russell:

$6M x 6 for a 3rd line center?

Yes I have to agree with that if he was willing to sign a 3 year career contract maybe but not likely that type of player is more likely to be added at the trade deadline for a playoff run.

There are some decent ufa s in the top 40, wonder if Chevy can pull off a signing like the perreault one. I think there will be some good guys there for the cheap.

I doubt Okposo's going to choose Winnipeg with half a dozen other suitors out there...unless we massively overpay him, which I would hate to see.

I'm really not sure where this perceived need for a marquee Top 9 F is coming from. It makes no sense since that's where the Jets are deepest (well, I guess we're deeper at 4th line forward).

LD, sure...there's not much I'd be too interested in. Schlemko, Weircioch, Pardy would be cheap options - but I doubt the Jets would start any of those guys in front of Stu. In the "Guys who probably won't come here" category I'd go with Hamhuis or Campbell...

What about Quinton Howden?

I like Quinton as a fourth line player, can play PK has some serious wheels. But I just don't see where there is room on this roster. Our fourth line will see three of:
Thor, Copp/Lowry, Armia, Dano, Tanev. Which of those guys does he beat out? He is a Tanev type of player. I wish they would just waive Peluso already too.
I know one team that's interested in him in the East.
The worst part for the kid is he played all year and sat in Playoffs for Shawn Thornton, who signed on for another year. What a waste of time, could lose out on a young guy for Thornton, sounds Jets like with Stu/Thor.

Buy out Stu! Bring in Weircioch!

Certainly wouldn't mind a real nice value signing like MP. Probably just prefer we get Scheif and Trouba on good deals and re-sign MP. More than ever I think Chevy we be managing the cap. How much does Laine cost in 3 years if he scores 40+ while on a ELC?

Aavco, can you explain to me why a team would not QO a player but them want them back potentially? What does doing it that way do for them?

Great point, I agree. What will MP command, 4 years at 4 million per?

Personally I'd love MP 4 x 4. Seems like a fair deal. Some injury concerns but a real effective player? I'd love to see Chevy be aggressive in signing him early. We have a real young team we need to have enough vets to mesh with the kids.

QO's require a 10% raise under a certain AAV. I forget the exact number. In Pirris case they didn't want to qualify him because he would elect for arbitration and get a juicy reward that he likely wasn't worth. Another possibility is contract space.

^ Too much term and money for my liking. If we're extending Perreault the contract must be easy to move.

An excellent signing at the time but a lot of skill has been added since MP arrived. It shouldn't be too long before they look to upgrade, add another element to the forward core and take the next step towards contending.

As far as I can tell these are mostly players who have arbitration rights. They are also players who seem to want to stay where they are for the most part. If they give them a QO then likely the players file for arbitration. This creates a couple problems potentially. One is that nothing get resolved until closer to the arb hearing so there is uncertainty for the GM about how much budget he has to spend on July 1. The other issue is the GM may not want to pay what an arbitrator is likely to award and would like to get a player to sign for less. It's a way to put pressure on the player and push the decision(s) to July 1 instead of late july or early august. They may lose the player as a UFA but then they can go shopping and get a player who better fits the budget. This is all kind of new and a lot of it is related to the relatively flat salary cap I think. There are more unqualified RFA's than ever before.

Just my take. There may be other factors at play

Perreault is a bona fide second liner, there's no reason he shouldn't stick around as the team improves. Even if all our hot prospects pan out as we hope there's still room for him on this team.

I think the only guy I'd want the Jets to pursue would be Schlemko. Jets can take a pass on everyone else on that list, as far as I'm concerned.

Schlemko sends Morrissey to the Moose though. Would prefer him given a chance on the bottom pairing with Postma. If add a D, I would prefer a LD that's better than Myers (or would be by the end of the year).

I would like to believe that Maurice will start the best team possible.

You would just hope that Chevy's comments about wanting a left handed defenseman shows what they think about a guy like Stuart at this point (and maybe where Morrissey is at right now).

I think they know what they have in Hellebuyck and watching the playoffs had to give them faith in going with a young goaltender.

Chevy didn't sign guys like Tlusty and Stempniak because he wanted to promote from within. You have to think that this year guys like Peluso and Thorburn will not be allowed to block some of the younger guys. Maybe keep Thor in the press box/locker room for this year.

Management needs to give Maurice the right players. Hopefully they eliminate Stuart and Thorburn from the equation. If they did that I don't think Paul could mess up the lines too much even if he tried.
