Serious question -> why oh why, after most losses, do folks call to trade Laine?:doh::deadhorse:deadhorse:deadhorse God damn, just shoot me if I have to listen to this again and over and over. :surrender

IMHO this is simply not a reasonable/logical/informed option, the guy was the best Jet on the ice yesterday. Trade him .... why? To pick up some solid grinders? Lets run a quick thought experiment, for the sake of exploration. Trade Laine you say? One massive problem is that if you trade him now its certainly from a position of weakness. The past two years will show that this kind of trade will gut the team and arguably has already weakened us. Its a sad and tired refrain. Laine is a player that most teams could hardly wait to draft, and we sit around discussing his trade.

Say something helpful you say?

OK, it would be helpful if the Jets could patch the D. Fix is impossible at present, but it could surely be improved.

Zero trade options? There is one obvious step to be taken.
If we start to fix the problem, let management promote Sami Niku and put him to good use.

<<Rant off>> Sorry to be impolite, but this thread is a cast-iron ***** to read.

You're seeing things that aren't there. No one has called to trade Laine in this thread, and people have said he was the best Jet. Just because someone says something somewhat critical sometimes, it doesn't mean he's the target of some movement to get rid of him.

Ya totally Scheif's fault for getting drilled into their goalie by one of their players .

We would have scored against Francouz. Once the Avalanche had to go to a green as grass G it was a foregone conclusion we were going to lose.

Anyone offering a 7th for Scheifele?

If we're being honest with ourselves, as happy as I am that Hellebuyck is having an incredible year, it's masking an absolute ton of problems with this team. Underlying numbers suggest that with even leave average goaltending, this team would likely be a bottom 7 or 8 team in the league. I fear that Hellebuyck playing so well that he's singlehandedly allowing this team to flirt with mediocrity is going to fool the powers at be into thinking that this team is closer to contending than it really is and the necessary changes won't be made. Perhaps I'm wrong, it's just a sinking feeling that I have.

Hellebuyck has stolen some games and kept us in some games this season that we had no right to be in.

His play has definitely masked that this team is underachieving.

We are lucky to have the record that we currently have.

So long, days of us beating the Avs

Going back to last season they’ve been the better club. Good for their fans I guess they’ve been through a long tough stretch.

They have absolute studs in MacKinnon and Makar. Yeesh.
Colorado has alot of talent up front but so do the Jets , we need help on defense though .

Phew I was at the game, what a snorefest, lot's of yawning on my part throughout the game (same with rest of the crowd). Plus AHL goalie decides to channel his inner Patrick Roy for the night. I left with 5 minutes left in the game.

Way to put on a show for the troops, Jets!

Laine has to take some responsibility for his play. There are lots of stars who develop under bad coaching.

There was nothing wrong with his play last night or any night this season I don't think. Except he's not scoring. I think night in and night out, he is doing everything else VERY good.

There are not many better 21 year olds in the NHL, if any.

See Post #86

So a post calling to trade him because the poster feels the Jets are ruining him is a call to trade him because he's to blame? A, it's one post out of many in this thread alone, which isn't representative of the fan base as a whole, and B, it's not even a call to trade him because he's a bad player.

Last time i checked a goalie is part of a team and Helly gets paid very well to stop the puck . Why do people ever think that when a team has a good goalie and win it's a bad thing ? Get a hot goalie in the playoffs and you usually win .

The Rangers are.

Chevy Claus will help them out again.

I agree, but if you read this thread we apparently only lost because of laine

It's upside down day I guess, because I thought he was awesome in every way except scoring. Probably the best Jet.

For three years all I heard was that he was a one trick pony and he was shitty in every other way, now he is a great two way player, but he doesn't single handedly pull everyone else's heads out of their asses, and it's his fault.

He can obviously be whatever the coaches want him to be, so hopefully this year he can put it all together and be everything to everyone. :sarcasm:

Well the coach doesn't want seam passes unless they are almost automatic. Hard for goal scorers (All of them on the team) to score when our coaching staff wants them to play a game that doesn't incorporate a lot of slot chances. From the coaches own mouth he doesn't want much risk in our play in the offensive zone and he wants the puck to go back to the point for point shots.

It leads this abysmal heat map, the bulk of the shots coming from the outside:

WPG

Looking at that is it any surprise that our forwards are having issues putting the puck in net.

Laine has been playing quite well this year just not scoring goals. He is one of the few players who isn't an issue.

The "coach" has nothing to do with Laine forgetting how to put a little zip into his shots - that is all my post was about.
Eight shots and nothing that looked like it gave this rookie goal tender any trouble what so ever.
He needs to get his shot going - regardless of how well he is playing over all.

But, TBH, I'm not surprised that the "coach" is blamed - it's an easy way to slide over the shortfalls.
Laine played a good solid game but his shot is not what it used to be - he needs to get it back on track.

The Jets have played like trash on many nights and relied on Hellebuck to bail them out and players have even said so in post game interviews in both losses and wins.

When Hellebuyck is bad we are definitely going to drop in the standings.

It is never good to beat the tires off your hot goalie by giving him no support.
