Friedman: Jets are not rebuilding, want NHL players back if they trade core pieces

Montreal with a winking face just sends them Savard and Drouin for PLD. They're gonna give up the bare minimum, and the Jets know it

Winnipeg is completely screwed either way

I think we would just sooner send him somewhere else as a rental. Maybe Colorado would be more willing to play ball.

Sounds like they are just gonna trade Hellebuyck and Dubois, maybe Wheeler too but he has a No trade list. Seems like a good move and makes more sense than a complete rebuild (trade Morrissey, Connor and Ehlers).

They did well when they were forced to trade Trouba, getting Pionk and a 1st, if they can find trades like that it could work out well for them again. Dubois to Montreal for Florida's 1st and Dvorak for example.

Yes but its the retention that matters for the jets. They need a lot more talent on that team, and if they lose Helly, who the hell is their goalie? The Jets are in for a very bleak reality should whoever replaces Connor sucks.

The funny thing about all that is. Gorton and Chevy have a pretty good relationship. It was Gorton who played ball with Chevy to get the Trouba for Pionk and a 1st trade done.

Guess who the POHO in Montreal is now?

Good point

Jets fans must be the most biased fan base in the NHL I have no clue what they think Helly is worth. If I’m the Jets I’d 100% do something around Samsonov and Helly

Nylander, Knies, Samsonov and a future 1st for Helly

That’s a deal I take and run if I’m Winnipeg
Makes absolutely no sense for Toronto. It's a huge overpay.

Jets could not accept that deal fast enough.

Except, the reported ask from wpg has been dach and the front office and ownership in Montreal has preached patience which doesn’t sound like we’ll overpay for 1 yr if dubois

Habs will not trade Dach after his breakout season and his team friendly contract. Dach is who the Habs will be earmarking the 2C role to. PLD doesn't factor into this.

I think the chances of a PLD trade to Montreal are now even more slim than before. Last season at the draft was the highest potential for the deal to be made. Now after acquiring Dach and his breakthrough, i see very small potential. If the Habs draft Will Smith, its even less probably.

Thats the thing though. Its no different than the Trouba trade. We all know its not "1 year of Dubois" just like it wasn't "1 year of Trouba".

It’s quite literally very different from the trouba trade, rangers were further along in their rebuild, Montreal just finished yr 2. The offer that Montreal fans would be happy to give us the fla or Cgy 1st (with protections), a roster player and a decent prospect Ala beck. Getting any of the big guys is unlikely to happen especially Dach

Re: Dubois to MTL.

Montreal definitely has less "hockey trade" pieces than "futures" pieces, so I wonder if it's a big part of why no deal has been made between the clubs despite us knowing they've talked.

IMO, Habs would be foolish to move Dach for Dubois. Beyond that, the only realistic options from MTL for Dubois are picks and prospects... or Josh Anderson:sarcasm:.

You have to wonder if this is the right long term hockey move from the Jets. I tried to warn some Jets fans earlier in the year that they might not be up for a real rebuild. OTOH, look at how Florida re-tooled and struggled to start, but have been elite in the playoffs.

The obvious trade piece is Dvorak, not Josh Anderson.

Dvorak + Fla 1st + Mesar/Beck. Which i see no point in doing as a Habs fan.

The deal was nearly done at the last draft according to most sources but the Jets wanted more. I have a pretty good feeling it will get revisited and something will get done. Like I said Chevy and Gorton have a very good relationship and Chevy is likely more willing to play ball now in a 1 for 1. Despite Habs fans wanting this to be some sort of highway robbery situation where Gorton and Hughes bend Chevy over a barrel. Their relationship is far to good for that to ever happen.

Judging from the comments that sparked this thread, I don't think that's enough immediate help.

Dvorak is a significant downgrade on Dubois. It's just too futures focused a deal, and with the drop in FLA's pick, I'd guess it's short on value as well.

And no, I don't think Josh Anderson works as the centerpiece of a deal either.
