Friedman: Jets are not rebuilding, want NHL players back if they trade core pieces

With All do respect I don’t think you know much about hockey if you believe the jets wouldn’t Accept Nylander, Sammy and Knies+ for Helly

I don't think Nylander makes much sense for us, can't see him resigning here. Sammy and Knies are a good start though.

Jets fans must be the most biased fan base in the NHL I have no clue what they think Helly is worth. If I’m the Jets I’d 100% do something around Samsonov and Helly

Nylander, Knies, Samsonov and a future 1st for Helly

That’s a deal I take and run if I’m Winnipeg

Saying to “do something around Samsonov” and then add several substantial pieces is “not doing something around Samsonov”.

Dubois at deadline = 1st plus prospect plus more prob. Look what Andrew Copp got back at the deadline so start there...

Anderson? No thanks. Dach and Florida 1st? Thats almost a deadline deal to a contender tho.

I’m assuming a 3 way trade where Nylander goes to another team then assets go to win is what would happen

Schiefele to Detroit makes way too much sense. Cossa plus an offsetting forward or two, take your pick... They've got plenty of draft capital.

Connor Hallebuyck might be a bit more of a complicated trade, especially if he's opting for free agency.

Somehow the Jets are going to have to bring back centers though. And I don't see how you do that without technically 'rebuilding'. They should be looking at underutilized prospects.

Judging from the comments that sparked this thread, I don't think that's enough immediate help.

Dvorak is a significant downgrade on Dubois. It's just too futures focused a deal, and with the drop in FLA's pick, I'd guess it's short on value as well.

And no, I don't think Josh Anderson works as the centerpiece of a deal either.
No team is going to trade an upgrade on Dubois or one that is close in value. Obviously you are getting a downgrade on Dubois.

I just don't see Hugo having motivation to trade for PLD now. Not after he made the Dach deal that has shown significant return and promise (not to mention the team friendly contract he is on). Habs are better served to be patient this season. Evaluate the wealth of talent that they have within.

You are absolutely dreaming or completely out of touch if you think the Habs would trade Dach for PLD, let alone add a 1st. lol

Dubois is a nice upgrade and puts the team into a pretty good spot moving forward. Very likely hes willing to sign a team friendly 8 year deal as well.

Andrew copp got a 1st 2nd 5th Morgan Barron as a rental at a deadline and ppl don't think Dubois gets more now or at the deadline?

Hey Habs fans, Jets don't need to trade the 1 yr rental to you.

And why do we want shitty 3 center in return when we have one already who is better? I mean, maybe Jets want RHD

Habs will likely be in a good position moving forward with Dach (and possibly Will Smith). They can hold onto the assets that it would take to get PLD. And, if the need for a 2C persists, chances are they can sign PLD for free next season to that team friendly deal.

ie. Habs are best served being patient. They have no need or motivation to rush a PLD deal.

We have heard the speculation of Dubois wanting to go to Montreal, but are we just assuming that montreal wants Dubois?

With his expiring contract and inevitable raise, the question becomes more complicated. It's not just about whether Dubois can help the team. The bigger question is if he's worth the locking in of significant cap space. Opportunity cost matters.

Dubois is a good talent, but I'd be nervous about making a big investment in him in a cap world.

I've said from the start that the Habs should trade for Dubois this summer, if the price works for them. Otherwise wait and see.

Dach doesn't work imo. Habs have a strong prospect and u20 group. I would have been more interested if they wanted more futures.

I'm just pointing out that compared to the primarily futures based asks of Jets fans in prior threads, the fact it now appears they're looking for NHL help now might put the Habs out of it.

We don't have a lot of NHL ready help lol.

100% agree with you. 1000%

Why does Montreal want to trade for PLD and have to pay him 8M / season when they have options from within. And if they draft Will Smith, i just don't see any potential for PLD to be a Hab unless he's playing wing.

Just because PLD wants to be Hab doesn't obligate the Habs to trade for him.

Ok hear me out pld for Dvorak and Harris and a 2nd and that's being generous take it or leave it
They would be better off to leave it and go with something like Col 1st + Newhook.

Habs can offer you 1st, 2nd and 5th with Filip Mesar if you prefer.
You can play the magic bean game instead.

Just a reminder that Rangers fans said the exact same things before the Trouba trade was done. We don't need him right now, they will be patient, we can just sign him in FA. You guys are just setting yourselves up for disappointment when this deal is done at the draft and Dubois signs an 8 year extension the next day.

Just a reminder that the NYR were well ahead in their rebuild and had a stark need for Trouba.

Why are the Habs setting themselves up for disappointment? You are framing this as if PLD is a must-have player for the Habs. When he's not.

If Dubois was a must-have 2C then they would have given up the farm for him last trade deadline. Instead they gambled on Dach and that's paying off.

I am okay with giving more for PLD but Dach is out of question. Magic beans and prospect is the way to go if that is what Winnipeg want.
