lol many were calling drai lazy last season, so much so that it became a joke on twitter. then he went on fire scoring goals but the criticism was still there
Well, who knows what would happen if he worked harder! Maybe he could score 50 goals! Wait...

To be fair, that's Finnish Google Translate

What he could have said was "I am seeking the hidden sacred elk fat from the white stag of Väinämöinen."

Maybe if he did find said elk fat, consumed it, his intelligence would go up a few points

There were times when Drai was lazy on the backcheck.
Just because he scored 50 goals and had a great offensive season doesnt mean that we should ignore other elements in his game.
He isnt a sacred cow.

It's shocking how many people (including TSN apparently) are basing conclusions on quotes from Jesse taken out of context from a spoken Finnish TV interview (channel Lämäri) then run through google translate. (how does google translate even do that?) I speak and understand Finnish and watched the whole interview. The first few questions are about Jesse's experience in the NHL in general, then a few about the Oilers in particular (to which he answers quite guardedly). The interviewer then notes the number of games where Jesse played 15+ minutes, and then he asks: "So what are your hopes for the future?" Jesse replies: "To be on a team and play those 15 minutes, be in the top six and show what I can do. That is still the ultimate goal for me." If this "reeks of entitlement" to you, then so be it. To me, it seems like a fairly sensible answer.

Lowetide is speculating that Holland is sitting on an offer and Jesse and his agent are trying to force the trade by crapping on the situation further. Sigh. Make the kid stay at home for a year and teach him and his agent a lesson.

This is why Holland is awesome. He’s going to do what’s best for the Oilers.

I have a hunch we’re making a deal with Florida with Pysyk+ coming back our way. Just a guess though.

Puls agent keeps chirping that his client wants to go to a team where he is going to be “top six” but last I heard you have to earn that spot wherever you go. The entitlement parade just marches on.

He could always work as a tour guide back in Finland if that top six thing doesn’t work out in the NHL. I hear Finland is also thinking about a space program. Somebody has to build the rockets.

He’s probably sitting on several offers, just nothing any good. Jesse and Lehto are too stupid to realize they are helping Holland by staying in Europe, where he wont have to be exposed to waivers. Let him show the league his hips are fine. He can go dominate there and Holland can benefit from higher trade value.

Honestly, the only reason it comes back into limelight is because JP wont shut up about it. Everyone knows he wants out. It was news months ago but for some reason, rather than tell off media that he's said what he's said and thats final [or the usual player move, talk to my agent], he still brings this crap up
He's trying to stay relevant.... but he just isn't.

Oilers fans are over it. We have a new season to look forward to with players that want to be here and actually work hard to contribute and stay in the NHL. We don't have time to pay attention to a cry baby because he happened to be drafted early in the first round.

If he works hard and actually shows some progress, he'll definitely re-gain some attention. But he has to stop trying so hard to stay relevant in the media, and just start trying harder where it counts - on the ice.

Seriously I have no idea why Lehto gave him the advice he did and is playing his cards this way. I'm not familiar with agents. Does he represent a lot of other players? Just curious what his track record is as an agent (if anyone knows)

Holland should tell Jesse and his agent to shut the f*** up and stop undermining the situation.

If Jesse really wants Holland to trade him then he needs to shut his pie hole for at least a few weeks.

As Captain, Connor needs to step up and call Jesse and patch this thing up so they can move forward and get this kid playing this season.
He probably would if he could but Jesse clearly had communication issues and literally blew off English classes so how will he understand what McDavid is saying? Do you think Connor didn't try when he was physically in the same dressing room as him?

So I had a random thought the other day...
What if the smiling after taking a penalty thing was just him thinking "oh yeah, I'm getting benched for that one" or "oh great, now I'll have to play with Lucic again"?

I’m pretty confident this all boils down to him being ostracized.

I don’t mean this in a way of blaming anyone, but it seems fairly clear they keep reiterating “money doesn’t matter, new management doesn’t matter, team is the same”

I’d place money on the fact that the team from McDavid down made it very clear they don’t like Pulju and don’t want to play with him. So rather than manning up and earning respect back, he’s taking his toys to another playground.

At least that’s my read...
It’s all just bullying/emotion at this point.

I think that Puljujarvi and his agent would have been fine if they thought he’d be getting top 6 minutes under the new regime.

Problem for them is Holland flat out told Lehto that Puljujarvi would have to start on the third line and earn his way to the top 6.

As soon as he told them that they pretty much dug in because Puljujarvi doesn’t want to have to work for it.

This is exactly what I was wondering the other day. “If I tank my value to a 3rd, I’ll definitely get traded”. Meanwhile, he doesn’t realize we won’t just dump him for a mid round pick

His value is likely at an untradeable level now that there's so many questions about his character/ego/entitlement issues (not to mention his subpar NHL play and his injury/surgery issues that he needs to show he's recovered from).

I think the only realistic alternative if the Oilers don't want to give him away for essentially zero... is for him to play in Europe and show that he actually has some on-ice skill... because his off-ice mouth and attitude is essentially giving him a zero chance at playing in the NHL again.

The interview with Lämäri asks what his hopes and goals for an NHL career is, the lead is let's look a few years or some time forwards.. - that's where he says top 6 position and 15 minutes a game,
If that should be criticised, then it should be because that as a dream for someone drafted 4th overall is aiming too low ..

But, this morning in Iltalehti, Mikko Koskinen comments on Puljujärvi's english skills as follows..
"He can certainly order pizza"

I read that and interpreted it as both a commendation (speaks well enough to manage stuff) but also a dig (is he insinuating Jesse is ordering pizza too often and not eating properly?)
but that's only trying to read between the lines from what Koskinen meant with that quote

The problem is that Jesse is putting the cart before the horse. Those answers are meaningless in the context of what he hasnt been able to accomplish so far.
If he was smart he wouldnt provide a 'goal'. He would just talk about being prepared to work as hard as possible and do anything he needs to do to prove that he can be an NHL player.
Its not at all about aiming low...its about understanding and honoring the process and level of commitment required to carry out the process.
Jesse just doesnt seem to understand this reality.

He also needs to understand that less is more when it comes to the media. Start saying no to interviews.

Because I also follow soccer, my take on the situation is a little bit different.

In European football, players quite often 'agitate for a transfer' if they want to move on and kick up a stink either by themselves or through their agent until their team lowers their transfer fee.

The problem with Puljujarvi doing it is that the NHL isn't European football. He's RFA, so he can't move around in the league without the other team giving up compensation, which he has yet to prove he is worth.

He also can't move to the Spanish/English/Italian/German league and make what he's making now, so his options are to tuck his tail between his legs and sign a new contract with the Oilers, play in Europe for a significantly lower salary, or sit out, which would basically be career suicide at this point.

Basically, he doesn't realize he has zero leverage at this point in time.

I agree that taking comments out of context to condemn a 21 year old kid is not fair. But it does not change the fact that what he needs to do is prove that he deserves those opportunities. He could sign with the Oilers and come back and play to a level that would force the team to give him the chance he is looking for, or at the very least prove to teams that he wants to be traded to that he is a good pro. Regardless of the actual context of his comments his unwillingness to play with the team is not a good sign. Intended or not, it does suggest an undeserved sense of entitlement.

I have no doubt the Oilers would be willing to accommodate a trade. But they need value for their investment as well. Holland is not going to just give away any player who is unsatisfied with his current lot. At least I hope he does not do so.
