Jersey Ads

I don't understand the point you're trying to make. Does the gambling company ad stop you from supporting the team you're fan of?
I never claimed it did.

You stated that the jersey itself was an advertisement and didn't see what the big issue was.

I was pointing out the fairly obvious difference between wearing a jersey of the team you're a fan of versus having an ad for some company you have no affiliation with slapped on a jersey.

Jersey ads so 4th liners can make 3M per year while McDavid is paid the same as Fedorov in 2003

raw
Using that comparison $3m "today's money" in "2003 Money" would be about $1.8m. Seems okay for a good 4th liner.

They are ruining the viewing experience. Not with this one thing, but with the constant bombardment of ads that's been creeping up for years.

It's really eye opening to go back and watch a full broadcast even from just 10 years ago. Night and Day.

Anyone who is looking at this as just a singular move is missing the cumulative effect.

If it gets to a point where it interferes with my enjoyment of the game, I’ll move on. Seems simple enough.

It's not as trivial as you pretend it is. Ads are absolutely everywhere at all times every single day, and its getting worse by the day.

I just want to enjoy one f***ing thing in my life for a few hours without someone trying to sell me a Bud Light.

The answer is simple. Don’t watch the NHL. Dedicate that time and energy to something else.

I’m pretty surprised by the number of people in this thread that don’t care.

Maybe not that surprised. People are willing to put up with a lot.
To be honest, ads don’t even register with me.

A few years back, I took part in a test screening of a TV show. it was an upcoming episode of a current TV show with ads and I assumed it was the ads they were texting because there was little reason to test the series itself. And even with that awareness, none of the ads made enough of an impression for me to answer questions about them at the end of a session.

I'm assuming all the people who have no problems with the ads also don't use adblocker on this site, which unlike the NHL is free and not insanely expensive.
Actually, I’m a sponsor because I do find certain types of Internet ads to be annoying. Using an ad blocker just reduces the effectiveness of the site‘s ads, meaning the Site may need to add more ads or increase the sponsorship price to make up for the loss.

I mean...

In the grand scheme of things its so minor. This year ive lost my Dad and had to put my dog down, I don't give a shit about jersey ads, there are more important things to worry about.

well definitely in the face of those life events it doesn't matter. Neither does hockey at all or any discussion on this website in comparison.

Sorry for your losses. I know how devastating both those can be.

How are they ruining the viewing experience if you can't see them

I can't wait until the Stanley Cup gets a corporatized makeover

Stanley Cup, who cares? It would be nice if the NHL were to give their championship trophy a corporate sponsored name so the owners and players could make more money! Who's going to stop watching hockey if the winning team is awarded the Yum! Brands Trophy?!?!?!?!

Has it interfered with my enjoyment of the game?

Absolutely, but it's still the greatest sport on earth and I'd still watch if they covered the jerseys, ice, coaches -you name it-, in ads.

How are they ruining the viewing experience if you can't see them

a) who says I can't see them?

b) did you stop reading after the first sentence?

Not many threads entertain like this one. Like half are cutting the CM Punk presser on all of advertising (Hangman Page) and the Owners or players greed (Omega, Young Bucks) while the people that supposedly don’t care decided to post that they don’t care, so everybody knows…. Next thing they’ll be super kicking down a door containing the…

Ok, my analogy doesn’t work

Not disagreeing but do you think the auto racing experience has been ruined?

Most people probably won't care especially after they get used to it.
