Jersey Ads

You’re ranting so hard in this thread you’ve been assuming both sides of the argument just to have it.
I'm going to add this to the pile of posts in this thread of people informing me of what my argument apparently is.

Surely we can give it a quick two second thought and find that there are far worse aspects of capitalism than advertising lol...

Most of the other bad things aren’t actually from capitalism, but from something else such as urbanization or industrialization.

Why does NHL need more revenue? Let me guess, "to grow the game?"
No. And that's actually something I would take exception to. No more expansion dollar money grabs, please. 32 teams is about all that can be reasonably supported.

Increased revenues means stable ownership. Stable ownership is good for the league. You don't want teams moving or folding. Not typically good for fans.

Can’t see the ads on the helmets while they’re playing as the camera is zoomed out too far to see it. When they zoom in on the players I don’t notice them.

I don’t see why the jerseys would be any different. I don’t notice the random patches teams have all over their jerseys either.

I just hope it doesn’t get out of hand eventually.

HFBoards, cries about stagnant salary cap.

HFBoards, cries about steps taken to increase revenue stream.
You telling me consumers are complaining about their interests being dismissed in favour of purely corporate safety-net funded revenue streams?

It does technically make sense since the consumer is so pinched nowadays that money really can't be squeezed out of them anymore; however, it just accelerates the ultimate death of the league. What happens when corporations don't want to advertise in empty stadiums and during dead airtime?

Im all for unions but the screwed up salary cap and the acceptance of ads on helmets and jerseys is on the players. If players were paid prorated with the income the league received during Covid shutdowns the salary cap would be higher and normal now. Since the players got their full salary we have stagnated growth for the next few years and more advertisements to help pay off the debt

No, your whole argument rests on my argument being that HF is a hivemind.

My superpower is apparently getting a bunch of people that don't like the cap figure where it's at and don't like ads on jerseys super upset.

So what is your point then? You started off just complaining about HF being hypocritical, but apparently you have come to realize that there are multiple people posting. So hypocrisy isn't your point?

K, I'll fix it.

HFBoards, cries about stagnant salary cap.

If you two want to pretend that those are minority opinions around here? Knock yourselves out.

You also have a few posts just supporting the ads

True. No reason a niche sporting league should look at the successful ones on how to increase revenue. That's just a bad idea all around.

In the actual popular sporting leagues in the world, the annual new jersey reveal is an event.

It's time for every team to come up with an iconic logo/seal that ends up in the corner with an ad taking center stage.

But then you also walk that back by pretending to have been against the ads all along?

I personally believe that billionaires shouldn't exist. That said... it's not like anyone else is going to run the NHL for us... necessary evil and all that.

I'm not simping for billionaires. I think ads on jerseys are dumb. But I'm not going to rant all leopardsatemyface style in here as I understand the world we live in.

So, you have more posts in this thread than anyone else. What is your point?

I don't care one way or another if the cap goes up or down. The number itself is irrelevant, its just how your GM manages it. The thing I don't like is yet more ads. Advertising has pervaded every corner of the game (and our lives in general) and I and many other people don't like it. That you seem seem capable of understanding that (yet claim to also think ads are dumb?) is truly sad for you.

The jersey itself is an advertisement, so I don't see what the big issue here is.

In the same way a countries flag is an advertisement for the country. Would you care if flags started having ads on them. Would you like Finland to compete internationally with a big McDonalds logo? How about an IKEA one?

I really hope the ads aren’t on the customers jerseys. Won’t be buying another one if that’s the case.

Yeah I’m nitpicking. But f*** it I hate ads

To make a humorous post summing up various talking points on HFBoards. As well as engage in a discussion. Mission success.
You also have a few posts just supporting the ads
Explaining the ads and their purpose in the context of a healthy NHL.
But then you also walk that back by pretending to have been against the ads all along?
I've always thought ads on jerseys are dumb. I just don't deny the context in which the league/owners feel they are necessary.

Discourse.

That is sad for all of us (and the us here is not the subset of hockey fans), my friend. Not just me.[/QUOTE]

I mean if hoarders rich people aren't able to hoard more and more for no useful purpose then what the hell are we even doing here.
I like to refer to them as dragons.

I'd rather they just charged more for the ads they already have.

At some point it starts to look like the game exists to sell ads, not that the ads exist to gain exposure from the game.
For the NHL/most owners that is 100% the truth.

I wonder how this might affect team anniversary patches, Stanley cup patches, dead people patches etc ....

This is trash and you know it and everybody knows it, quite frankly.

Also- I hope that rampant legal gambling unleashed by Ceasar’s Sportsbook and others destroys professional sports once and for all, making it a mockery of actual competition and sportsmanship. That would serve the ad people right.

Nah, NFL is probably the slowest in introducing new Jersey designs. Only soccer and NBA introduce 4 New Jersey’s every year which is dumb . The NFL and NHL have historical teams with iconic looks and I love that
thats changing for the NFL.....they are allowing teams to change the helmet looks...

It's barely visible. People just like to complain..

It's a designed creep. Move the posts a couple inches at a time until they get where they want to be. No uncertainty abut it, they want to monetize every single damn square inch of open space.

First were the board ads, then ice ads, then they added ads in the glass behind nets, then helmets, now jerseys. In a couple years we will see soccer style jerseys where the ad sits front and centre in place of the team logo.

What's ypur personal tolerance for ads? Mine was bypassed years ago.
