Confirmed with Link: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson fired - no more Woody during NNN - Kris Knoblauch hired, Coffey as assistant

The Coach Killers and inept GM claim another victim.

I would have been fine with Manson & Schwartz going but I still blame the architect of the roster first and foremost.

How Holland still has his job after this shit roster he's assembled is just beyond failure with ownership. But one thing I've learned over my 20+ years working in the public sector is management protects management.
If Manson is still around we’ve completely lost the script

This 100% falls on the players. But more specifically Campbell and Skinner. They’ve all played like shit to start the season, but the goalies have been god awful. Don’t agree with this firing at all, what a dumb move.

Seemed fine last year. And the year before, the year before that and the year before that. Teams has some weaknesses like just about every team but those should be apparent in the playoffs not game 13.

This is the challenge in managing this team.

Results can be skewed when one player is going on a monstrous scoring tear like McDavid did.

Everyone grows an inch or two taller, mistakes are erased, mojo around the team is good.

You have to be brutally honest when evaluating the rest of the team and their play without being skewed by how much Connor makes things look pretty good when he is on.

Fair enough, but you have to admit, this team under Woodcroft this year looked probably as bad defensively as any Oiler team since the Dallas Eakins era.

How long could that honestly continue.
I think it's the goaltending straight up. Players don't care Because no matter how hard they come out they will be down a couple goals regardless. That's the definition of moral defeat imo

Our defensive play has been god awful too. So Manson better be gone

This team has had a number of very experienced coaches and nobody can last longer than a couple of years.

It's really not about the coaching.

Anybody but Sutter though.

Ceci and Bouchard are in top 4 and Nurse is on the top pairing.
Stinky Skinner is the starter.
Draisaitl cant back check and other forwards are just as irresponsible defensively.
McDavid magic offensively and Draisaitl cheat mode on PP was the only reason we were a 100pt+ team.

Why not Sutter?

I'll be honest though a lot of the Oilers defensive breakdowns are glaring. Yes Campbell/Skinner aren't great as well, but the number of horrendous breakdowns this year was like watching the Eakins era Oilers.

What's the story with Gallant? Would he be a good option? He has an unreal coaching record in the last decade with three different teams. Does he keep getting let go because of the lack of success in the playoffs? This article makes him out to be a player's coach, and it sure seems like we need more of a tactical guy:

I know Trotz took some time away to be with his family - maybe he's ready to come back?

If Sutter comes in we need to add more beef to play his style.

We have some I think. He would love Kane and Nurse, even though he's not necessarily a "hit to hurt guy", Ekholm is a big human being too. Desharnais likely would benefit a lot from a coach like that too.

Yeah i keep seeing that the players are deflated cause they dont expect a save

Goes both ways - a goalie has to be affected when he sees what he sees

Friedman has an inside source with the Oilers these days. I wonder if it’s Jackson leaking info purposefully to shape the optics.

Lost favor in NY because he refused to play young players.
